Hi, J.C. -
I've used Logitech, Kensington, and Microsoft mouses - all worked well. I've ended up using the MS Intellimouse Explorer models, mainly because of the shape of the mouse - it suits my hand best.
However, I do not use the software that comes with the mouse. Instead, I use
USB Overdrive, which provides better control and no conflicts.
One thing to consider when using an optical mouse is the surface. A fine textured or matte surface is better than a smooth, shiny, or patterned surface; a dark surface is better than a light one. Oddly, an old cloth-covered black or dark blue mouse pad is near perfect.
