Best Mouse for 9.2.2?

I use 9.2.2 exclusively, and my Apple Optical Mouse just stopped working. I've tried a few cheap mice, but they all have low resolution.

Could you please offer some recommendations regarding which mice work best with 9.2.2?

Thanks for your time.

Have you checked the optical path in your existing mouse. Sometimes it can get a bit of debris in there and so stop the mouse ability to track.

I have once had a cable optical mouse "break" as the outer grounding wires near where they enter the mouse weakened to the extent that it became detatched and so didn't work until I managed to "reconect" the break.

Sorry this doesn't answer your question directly but may get your existing mouse reserected.

Hi, J.C. -

I've used Logitech, Kensington, and Microsoft mouses - all worked well. I've ended up using the MS Intellimouse Explorer models, mainly because of the shape of the mouse - it suits my hand best.

However, I do not use the software that comes with the mouse. Instead, I use USB Overdrive, which provides better control and no conflicts.

One thing to consider when using an optical mouse is the surface. A fine textured or matte surface is better than a smooth, shiny, or patterned surface; a dark surface is better than a light one. Oddly, an old cloth-covered black or dark blue mouse pad is near perfect.

I bought a MS Wireless Laser Mouse 5000. A wonderful mouse in OS X Tiger, but non-functional as anything but a single button mouse in OS 9.2.2. The available OS 9 compatible MS software for MS mice won't activate the functions of the Wireless Laser 5000 nor will USB Overdrive. Yes, I'm advising you not to buy this mouse!

However, I've been running it daily for over two months on two standard AA batteries and the charge indicator shows still shows full power (i.e., this mouse is not a battery eater).

Just another point with wireless mice, that everyone else who uses one will agree on, if you go wireless, also be prepared for a heavy mouse, those 2 AA batteries do make an enormous difference to weight.

This isn't a problem for everyday application use, but if you have mouse intensive operations, ie FPS games, it can get a bit annoying.

Any Microsoft Mouse should work with the last OS9 MS Mouse driver, version 3.1 I think. I did get a few ghost clicks with a brand new MS Mouse and this driver though. Not perfect but all the buttons and scroll wheel worked.

Hello Mr. A.,

Thanks for your great reply.....as always :>)

I did buy a microsoft mouse, and it failed within ten minutes - as you noted, because of sloppy microsoft coding. I will take your advice and look into USB Overdrive.

Thanks again for your reply, and Happy Holidays.
