AirPlay problems

I'm having trouble Airplaying to my ATV from both my iPad and iPhone 6. It used to be fine but now on both devices the sound goes through the TV but not the picture. I can only think that this has started since I did the last software update.

I've done a hard reset on both devices, switched AirPlay on and off on the settings on ATV but nothing. Any ideas out there?

Other user with similar symptoms have resolved them by reconnecting or replacing the cable. I agree that pulling the cable would be a good test. There must be something in the initial AirPlay communication, even before connection is initiated, that makes the client decide that ATV can only accept audio.

Also, it is significant that the OP sees the same symptom on different client devices. Could it be that iOS has moved beyond accepting ATV 2 as AirPlay targets? That shouldn't be the case. Do you have ATV 2 that shows the TV icon?

It isn't all that clear what other users with similar symptoms means, nor have I seen any users suggest that making some sort of change to the HDMI cable changes the status of the AirPlay icon as discussed. I understand why you think what you are thinking but you keep using words like must without providing any evidence of any kind.

I don't think it's significant at all that the problem is seen on all devices on the network, this would be exactly the scenario if the problem/solution was in the Apple TV, the network, the network environment or the network router. I do believe the solution is most likely to be found in one of those areas and whilst I'm far from convinced it's anything to do with the HDMI cable, I do acknowledge its a possibility that it is, I do however feel it's rather a stretch to conclude it must be related to the HDMI cable.

I have the same problem. Audio only from all apple mobile devices. The AirPlay icon is a speaker symbol. Apple remote works fine. Video and audio from desktop through iTunes to Apple TV also works. All devices and Apple TV are up to date. All have been rebooted including the router. Obviously not an HDMI issue as video plays over wifi from the desktop to the Apple TV. Enabling bluetooth on the device and Apple TV doesn't make a difference.

BUT: I unplugged the powercord AND the HDMI. Waited 30 sec. Plugged it all back in and voila! Working on all devices. Initially just the iphone 4s but then the ipad gen1 after I rebooted that.
