Tap Settings then swipe down and tap Safari the swipe down and tap: Clear History & Website Data then restart your iPhone.

That should get rid of the pop up.

If you ever see that again, don't press ok. Just delete history and data then restart.

What Carolyn said does actually not work (at least it didn't work for me), I erased my history like 5 times, trying a different website each time, and turning it off... What made it stop was to block all cookies, but it's not a permanent solution and I would really like to know where it came from.

What's really weird is that it seems to have appeared two days ago, with no link to an app or a specific website (I checked on other forums over the internet, people tried to find the reason for the malware but didn't find any connection with anything specific, and it is not restricted to a place on the globe : some are in Europe (like me in France), others in the US/Canada, others in Japan,...).

So it might not be a virus, but I must have came out of somewhere if so many people experience this weirdness.

So Apple should definitely check this thing out.

The only way to get malware of any kind on a iOS device is to jailbreak it. There are no viruses of any kind.

All you should need to do is two things, which doesn't even include rebooting the device.

1) Press the home button twice to enter the app switcher. Scoll through the open apps until Safari is highlighted. Drag it up and off the screen. This closes the app.

2) Enter Settings and choose Safari. Scroll down and choose to Clear History and Website Data. This removes all cached data and cookies.

That's it. Relaunch Safari.

If after that you are still seeing some kind of popup, then you are repeatedly visiting a compromised site that is displaying a JavaScript popup every time you go there. Stop visiting that site. If necessary, you can temporarily disable JavaScript in the same Safari settings to kill the popups, which will allow you to navigate away from the page.

This problem happened to me as well. It actually originated from an ad on the site I was visiting, a small boardgame site. And the solutions proposed here didn't work for me.

The problem is not a virus, but an annoying ad with a javascript, that redirects you to this scam-site.

You can disable this by blocking all cookies. But that's annoying. In the end I chose to install an adblocker to guard me from this. I used adblock plus, and this solved the problem.

I feel a little ambivalent about blocking ads. But if ad servers can't protect end-users against problems like these, then they can't be granted access to running scripts on users machines. I hope this gets solved eventually, so I can disable the adblocker again soon.

Hi all ... There is already a discution about it, this happen everywhere in the world since this night, and it happen on ANY iphone NOT jailbreak or what ever other crap .. All the solution like Delete internet cache etc and cookie DOESN'T fix it ..

This is tollaly new Attack .. Never seen something like that since the Iphone 1 ever exist ..

Read here https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7623473

So please stop thinking the iphone can't be attacked and thinking you know all about it, thanks .. (i was thinking that to myself .. sadly this is not thrue anymore ..)

There is no attack of any kind. It's JavaScript being used to produce the popups and open new web pages. Spammers and crooks have been using JavaScript for over a decade to do this.

In the topic you link to, the solution was posted numerous times. And surprise, surprise, it's the same one I posted here. Disable JavaScript so you can get off the web site and/or stop a persistent popup, and then turn it back on once you've moved away from that site.

Repeat, there is NO ATTACK. It's a simple JavaScript trick.

Edit: Additionally. If after these simple steps you are still having issues with redirects and popups, then it's most likely your router has been compromised. Older units are especially vulnerable to this because their firmware is greatly out of date and are susceptible to attack. The only solution for those is to junk it and get a new one. The other common router issue (again, mostly for older units, but also newer ones) is they stupidly allow remote access by default. Enter the router's settings and turn any such "features" off.

If you aren't sure if it's the router, follow the device's instructions to reset it to factory conditions, which is usually be pressing a small, recessed button for 5 seconds or so. If the issue goes away, you just proved your router was the problem.

Hi Kurt ...could not be more clear, but you definitively didn't understood yet !! .. Sad

Deleting Internet cache and all, reseting the Iphone 6, what ever other tip, DO NOT FIX IT, as soon as we open ONE NON CONTIMATED site that we were using for age with no problem, The Crap COME BACK, i mean on Normal site we were using for age, that's not opening a contaminated site !! That's the problem !! It's somewhere in the phone !! That's why i said, this is the first time i see such a Massive International Attack against Iphone since it's born, before it happen to me, i was thinking like you, the Iphone is unvulnerable, that's now Definitively WRONG, and i'm 44 and working with computers, maintenance and all since they exist ^^
So it's not "when you open a bad site", it's now IN THE PHONE and need to be Removed/Fixed (I recognize it must have happenned the very first time visiting a very bad site or inclued in some version of some program, it's simple because te only program i installed for months is PoGo .. so no need to search more .. and the only 3 sites i visited are in my links on other post .. see before*)

Hope that's more clear, and once again, i was thinking myself that it can not happen on a Iphone like mine who is the more secure possible and where i mostly use only Apple Applications inclued and all option of everything is blocked ....

Kurt (and the rest of us) quite obviously does understand. Have you considered the possibility that the site could well have been compromised since the last time you used it? Or, as Kurt suggests, it could be your router that is the problem. In fact, that sounds rather likely.

Your age and the fact that you've worked with computers do not necessarily mean you understand how the security features of iOS work. But, the bottom line is that there are currently no viruses that can affect an unjailbroken iOS device. Period. Full stop.

Jul 29, 2016 12:22 PM in response to Anonyme From France

There is/was only one known somewhat current iPhone attack. Sidestepper. It also requires that you have Mobile Device Management on. Which is something corporations use to send apps to their company iPhones remotely. Very few people have this feature turned on.

Another recent one is a TIFF that is crafted to hold other malware data as part of the format's tagged information. Because Mail and other iPhone apps automatically process images instead of waiting for you to say so, the code gets executed as soon as the image is read.

But, a) that someone first needs to know your email address in order to send you a malicious image. And b) Apple fixed this flaw with the 9.3.3 iOS update. You did update your iPhone, yes?

Jul 29, 2016 12:42 PM in response to Kurt Lang

I don't use any router 🙂 WIFI disabled ALWAYS (except to dowload a program on Apple Store ...)
Full updated and full option Locked except the minimum required for the Iphone to work well ....
Didn't install anything for months, except PoGo two days ago ... and the problem pop in the night yesterday ... it happened to thousand peoples at the exact same time all over the world .. Read the different forum linked one to another (sorry for crap english, not native as you noticed ...)
Someone reported in a forum that it happened when he downloated the apk from another source, i don't do that, was from regular store since my Iphone is not modified ..
The site i tested (they are two in fact ..) are safe, i use them for age and are poor french site for encouter that no one know out from France ^^ they are not infected by the night ! lol ... anyway .. that's ANY SITE that you open and the Crap POP ....If you want my feeling,... I think exactly like you, the Iphone CAN NOT be infected except from a Corrupted Program installed by user .. So this means, some Pokemon Go (or all i don't know...) where corrupted incluing the Crap .. That's the ONLY way i see, because what happened is not on a web site, it's definitively IN THE PHONE NOW ..

I don't see any other reasons i could have been contaminated, i did not click on anything on the redirected crap site, only closed ...

Once again, it happens at the very same time to Thousands peoples all over the World !! See the date on forums, nothing before .... All from this night .... And if i was a piwate myself, i would really choose Pokemon Go to put my Crap, best option ever with the millions download ... You know they already been victim of an attack yea ?? They are just noobs in all this and can easy be corrupted my feeling ...

Well, just hope APPLE give us a Fix Assap ..

It's an iPhone. Whether you're connected to a wireless router signal or not, you are connected to the Internet at all times. But that does indeed eliminate that avenue.

I missed a piece of the puzzle earlier when trying to find information on this. For Apple devices, it's nothing more than a browser extension. The entire purpose for mega.viral's existence is to flood your mobile device or computer with ads.

So, if you have Firefox or Chrome on your iPhone, open their settings to disable and remove all extensions. You may have also installed a so-called security package on your iPhone (completely unnecessary) that is actually the source of the problem.

Jul 29, 2016 1:28 PM in response to Kurt Lang

Well this is enought .. So this is my last post ..

I NEVER use other application than the original on the Iphone (except small games exceptionnaly...) thought it was clear Oo We prolly don't talk the same lang or something !! Told it 10 times .....
