New to Mac - need help with iphoto

Just bought a Mac in May, which has OS X El Capitan. Trying to utilize the full benefits of iPhoto (hope I have that name correct). I want to be able to organize and edit photos mostly. Came from PC world and am admittedly still figuring out my Mac. I have had an iPhone for years so I understand a little bit of it, but still confused. Here are my questions:

1. How do I organize my photos into specific folders? I can see where they were imported to, but not sure how to get them into folders for organizing based on categories of events, clients, etc.

2. If I want to be able to back them up in iCloud, how do I verify my settings to make sure I'm doing this correctly? I'd like to be able to access them across all my devices if possible (iPhone, Mac, iPad)

3. If I delete them in one place, does that mean they are deleted everywhere? (May be a dumb question, but again, I'm still learning.) 😉

Any help is appreciated. Thanks so much,

EGerdes

As I showed you prior, www.icloud says it has nothing for me to delete. Someone is not being honest. PLus there's the fact my address book was consumed.

El Capitan comes with the Photos for Mac application. iPhoto has been provided with older Macs.

Photos for Mac is organizing everything automatically into Moments, Collections, Years.

  • Moments are grouping photos taken at the same time at the same place.
  • Collections are grouping related moments
  • And the years view is showing all photos taken in the same year.

You can add albums by selecting photos and creating an album from them.

And you can group releted albums by moving them to folder. Folders can be nested.

I'm not sure what your first quote/comment means or where it comes from, as it is not mine?? This was the first question I ever posted. 😉

Ok, so I must have "Photos" then? Sorry, I'm not so sure about the names of things... still learning it and have probably been reading about too many things in this category.

Thank you for your help. I will try that.
