Reformat WD My Passport Ultra for Mac Not Working

My Passport Ultra was previously used on my Windows 7 PC. I have since reformatted it on my PC just to get all the info off of it.

I want to format it to work on my Macbook Pro for Time Machine, so I looked into how to do that. It told me to open the Disk Utility, and to choose the drive and then choose 'Erase'.

However, the 'Erase' button is greyed out and it will not let me erase it.

Again, the drive has already been formatted on my PC, so it is blank.

Is there maybe a way to format it for a Mac on my PC??

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6), 13", 2.9 GHz, 8GB RAM, 512GB

I downloaded the WD Disk Utility. Every time I go to erase the disk, it unexpectedly closes the program. Ran the diagnostics on it with the same program and it seemed to be fine??

A replacement disk is not expensive, maybe go that route, and don't buy a WD this time.

OK I restarted the computer and it worked! I can now successfully use it with Time Machine - Thanks for everyone's input, I really appreciate it!!!
