how can I import an excel spreadsheet into a keynote document

I have a macbook pro 2013. How can I transfer and insert a table from numbers into my keynote presentation? If this is possible, will it be editable in keynote? I converted the file to excel just in case but am unable to retrieve it in keynote.

This question is asked regularly here and the established method is:

select the required cells in excel by click and dragging the mouse
copy (command C)
add a chart onto a Keynote slide
click the Edit Chart Data button
select all the cells with sample data in the spreadsheet by click and dragging the mouse
press the delete or backspace key to remove the sample data
paste the data from excel into the spread sheet (command A)

Sounds very tedious. Very disappointed the almighty Apple doesn't have a more efficient way to do this. I'll try it. Thanks.

An Excel file cannot be imported into Keynote per se, neither can a Numbers file. You can save the Excel file as a PDF (Save As... > PDF) or take a screenshot of it (Command + Option + 4) which will save it as a jpeg. Either format can then be dropped into a Keynote slide. Neither format will be editable.
