Does Apple offer email addresses?

I bought my first Apple products today, a MBP 13" and an SE. Though I am able to use an existing email account to register an Apple ID, I would like to start fresh with an "Apple" email address. Could someone please explain to me if this is possible? I've seen iCloud accounts before. Is this an actually address or is it simply a proxy that routes email to the associated non-Apple email address associated with the Apple ID?
