can't edit what podcasts I want to play on ipod touch

I have two ipod, one with limited room. I have picked and chosen which podcasts I want to download on it. Suddenly, there is no option to do that on itunes. If I click the symbol for the iPod nothing happens. If I right click I can eject it, but I can't edit the podcast list. It used to be if you clicked on the symbol for the ipod a window would come up allowing you to chose what you wanted to sync. I use a mac air.
