the monitor came with no power supply and after searching the web for one I realized the were extremely expensive. I am now trying to figure out if it is worth it to keep the monitor. Is there any way around the power supply? Is it possible to just get a dongle and hook it up to my laptop? Also since this model has no built in audio is there anyway to hook it up to some speakers? Any advice is appreciated thank you!
Afraid not, you will need the power adapter to run the screen.
They are very expensive, which is why you often find people offloading the screen and the power adapter separately on eBay etc. The power adapter often fetching far more money than the screen itself.
My initial suspicion of a screen acquired without the power adapter is that the screen is probably faulty and the owner flogged the power adapter already. But i could be wrong :-)
a1082 is a brilliant monitor IMO and they still worth a few buck! i still use one today.
Only thing i can suggest is to get a used power supply off eBay, but there are a lot of dead ones about so be careful.
