USB 3, Thunderbolt or Firewire 800

I need to regularly transfer audio files in the .wave format from one computer to another. Using either a USB 3, Thunderbolt or Firewire 800 external drive seems to be the best way to do this.

After doing some research it appears as though USB 3 can be a memory hog or also a cpu hog. Thunderbolt seems to be a bit faster and uses less cpu power and memory. Not sure about Firewire 800.

My main concern is finding something that will not interfere with audio playing in my radio station automation software while I simultaneously drag and drop audio files into the computer playing the audio files for the radio station from the external drive. Also need something speedier than USB 2 since these files will be fairly large at times since they must be .wav files. Can't use mp3 due to the compression of these files causing noise in the audio playback.

Firewire 800 seems to be twice as fast as USB 2 which would be adequate. Clearly USB 3 and Thunderbolt are much faster but that kind of speed may not be necessary though I am willing to buy one of these devices if they won't screw up the music playing on the automaton computer while I transfer files.

The major drawback to Thunderbolt appears to the cost of a drive and also the reliability of the units on the cheaper models. I don't want to spend several hundred on a drive when a $100 USB 3 or Firewire 800 device will work. Unless Thunderbolt is a major step forward and will be reliable (many reviews of these devices indicate otherwise) then I think I would be best off with USB 3 and Firewire 800.

Anyone have experience with all of these formats? If so, which would be best. I need some feedback before I make a decision. Thanks!
