Continuous beeping on iPad Pro w/ Smart Keyboard

About every day, I will find my iPad Pro continuously beeping. Laying flat on my desk with the keyboard closed or in my briefcase. The only way to stop the beeping is to remove the keyboard completely. Just opening doesn't stop it.

I think it's related to notifications happening, as there are always notifications on the splash screen when I open the keyboard. In the case of it laying on my desk, there shouldn't be any buttons pressed, although that could be the case in a briefcase.

I'm baffled by this, especially since there are no search results on this topic in Google. Anyone else seeing this?

iPhone 4S, Windows XP

I have the same problem on a first generation 9.7" iPad Pro and smart keyboard. If you notice when the beeping occurs, it's flipping the iPad into charge mode and back (i.e., the battery indicator switches back and forth between white and green). The iPad also says that it's been plugged in since the last full charge under settings, even though that's not the case. Somehow the iPad is reading a questionable keyboard connection through the side connector as power. If it gets into this mode and continues, it will drain the battery iPad's battery because the keyboard is not an independent power source.

To stop this, I have to disconnect the keyboard for 15-30 seconds before reconnecting it. It seems to happen when using the keyboard from time to time, or from switching from streaming to some application that requires typing after reconfiguring the position of the iPad with respect to the keyboard. There is an issue with the connection, and given it only happens when the keyboard is connected, it may well be the keyboard's connector.

I've also experienced a possibly related problem with the connector from time to time where the keyboard is not read by the iPad and has to be disconnected and reconnected to be recognized.

I turned off every notification —which is unacceptable, but the test was neceSsary. This ONLY happens when the Apple keyboard is attached. The ipad goes nuts. I beleive it is a problem with the magnetic keyboard. If I use another keyboard it does NOT happen regardless of how many notifications I have on. This occurred over the last two updates...it’s Apple and they need to fix it.

I also have been having the problem for a few months now and getting worse. I can generally stop it by ensuring the pins and contact pads are exactly in line and smoothing the cover onto the iPad with my thumb. This works until I move the cover again. I can see that the centre of the three contact pins on the keyboard, does not protrude as far as the outer contact pins.

From a very long phone call with Apple today, where eventually after having been made to jump through all sorts of unnecessary and time wasting hoops, I have an appointment with my local Apple Store in the centre of Brighton, with its impossible parking - wonderful. From the reaction of the Apple folk, you would think I was the first person instead of the n'th with this common problem. I presume the staff are instructed to be pleasant but obtuse and obstructive, to try and minimise Apple's repair liabilities. I see at least Apple is offering an extended repair service for this issue, which I have printed off and will take with me.

As my other iPad (air 2) needs its battery replacing, given its health is down to 48%, that will be another visit to Apple Brighton later, as I cannot be without both my iPads at the same time.

Take a video of it with your iPhone and play it for the Apple tech.

I took my iPad and keyboard in in October 2016 after owning it for 10 months. The Apple genius had said he had not heard of the problem at that time. He looked up my AppleCare and came out with a brand new iPad. I was surprised. At that point we did not swap out the old keyboard. The problem came up again the next day. I went back in and apple gave me a new keyboard. That solved the problem for about 9 months. Last night I went back to apple and after a long time trying to read the serial number from the felt on the keyboard, (not possible, take a photo off the keyboard box and save it to your notes) they gave me a new keyboard. Today the problem persists. That’s why I’m here trying to find a solution.

Is anyone that purchased the second gen 2017 iPad Pro having this problem?

This is the advise I got from Apple. Since doing it I haven't had any more trouble.

Put your device in recovery mode and set it up again

  1. Make sure that you're using the latest version of iTunes.
  2. If iTunes is already open, close it. Connect your device to your computer and open iTunes. If you don't have a computer, borrow one from a friend or go to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider for help.
  3. While your device is connected, force restart it with these steps:
    • On an iPhone 6s and earlier, iPad, or iPod touch: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. Don't release the buttons when you see the Apple logo. Keep holding both buttons until you see the recovery mode screen.
    • On an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Volume Down buttons at the same time. Don't release the buttons when you see the Apple logo. Keep holding both buttons until you see the recovery mode screen.

  4. When you see the option to Restore or Update, choose Update. iTunes will try to reinstall iOS without erasing your data. Wait while iTunes downloads the software for your device. If the download takes more than 15 minutes and your device exits recovery mode, let the download finish, then repeat these steps.

  5. After the Update or Restore completes, set up your device.
