This is all I can see...How can I adjust the height (zoom) to view the waveform? Expanding horizontally does not help increase the height. Lots of dynamic change in the audio playback...so it is there, but not on the display. I just want to do some simple edits, but can't see any of the detail of when a note begins or ends etc. Thanks for any help. (I am musician but not experienced sound technician!!)

Do you need to record in stereo? If you are only recording one instrument, it is easier to mix, if it is a mono recording and the wave forms will show with a higher amplitude and are easier to edit. Compare to my screenshot.
Thanks, I really appreciate your help and response. I will try various settings at the recording stage and see what I can do. Sometimes we are recording several instruments at a time, but in this case it is just the one to mix in later so I will try it in mono... as well as try adjusting the levels. But I gather that the answer to my original question is that once in garageband it is automatic and there is no slide bar or zoom capabilities to view higher amplitude.
Try to drag the dividing line between the track editor and the track area upward. The will increase the height of the wave form slightly.
But it looks like the recording level of that track has been way too low. Normally the wave form has higher amplitudes by default.
Yes I did try that, and it changes it very minimally to not at all. I will go back to see about the recording levels... tho I have plenty of volume when I play the audio back, and the meter doesn't look consistently low while recording. (Sorry for my inexperience on this end of the process). I have been using my much older version of garageband with same recording device with no problem like this for many years).

No, there isn't. You can just make the editor window higher or decrease the resolution of your display in the system Preferences > Display. That will make the curve larger, but not clearer.
