I am so disappointed that my new AirPods that I waited so long to get won't work with either my Nano or Shuffle, or my older Ipod classic.

The Nano/Airpod combination would seem to be the ultimate in portability.

Also experiencing the low volume with my Airpods bluetoothed to my Nano. Got the latest software on both nano and Airpods. Tried suggestions above and still low volume. Read on another post to try another Bluetooth device so tried my cheapo Android tablet and they are super loud and sound great. Com'on Apple let's fix this issue I'm guessing with the nano.

Well just for the heck of it I thought I would try my Airpods again with my Bluetooth nano and today the volume was loud. I'm cautiously optimistic because I thought it was fixed and they went quiet again before. So today I cycled power on the nano several times, forgot and repaired the Airpods several times too and they were still loud. Now when I say loud it's not loud like when I paired them to an Android device but it's much better than before and more respectably loud, Now that the iPods have all been discontinued 😟 there will be no more updates so I suspect they updated the Airpods to maybe fix it. The Airpod version I have is 3.7.2. Can't remember the old version number but this sounds new. If anyone else has this same config of Airpods with a Bluetooth nano let me know if yours is working better too. Maybe Apple listened to us!

Yeah it's pretty ridiculous. I posted on macrumors about mp3 players I tested. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/airpod-mp3-player-discoveries.2031953/

The fact that the nano doesn't work is crazy, considering cheap Chinese mp3 players connect at normal volume (connection issues aside). People who say the nano isn't on the "supported devices" interpreting the list incorrectly. Bluetooth should work be fine.

My solution to low volume issue with AirPods and 7th gen iPod Nano. After a lot of trial and error, the final piece of the puzzle was to "Restore" my Nano using iTunes. That brought the volume up to iPhone and iPad standards. (I have no clue why this works!) But make sure the following items are always the case:

1.Before transferring music or podcasts to Nano from iTunes make sure you've cranked up the base volume by selecting the items, hitting Get Info, then hitting Options, and then sliding the volume control to 100%. Save that setting.

2.On the Nano, go to Settings, turn Sound Check, Volume Limit, and EQ off. (If you experiment with EQ, you'll see that any setting lowers the overall volume.)

( There are suggestions to Reset your Nano by pressing the Home and Power button simultaneously, but for me that made no difference. Resetting your Nano may cause the settings to revert to default status. So if you are having other issues and have to reset, make sure to check that Sound Check, etc. are off afterwards.)

This worked for me and probably made the difference between keeping my AirPods and returning them.

They might work with the iPod Nano. They work with Android smartphones the old-fashioned way (go to settings - Bluetooth) so in theory they should. But on the other hand I know that some people have had trouble with some Bluetooth devices not showing up in settings. It could work or it may not. I hope this helps. :-)

I agree. Shame..... My wife and son bought for Xmas gift For me. $140+. gift. They are very disappointed. I have the most recent Bluetooth Nano iPod. Guess I use my IPhone 7. Again what a shame to not include for the smallest most mobile Apple device. I feel bad for them given they thought they had researched compatibility. Have to be tech guru I guess when gifting tech gifts☹️.
