I agree with you in your last statement it is a waste of money to ship the phone with any headphones. I am just getting a piece of hardware I will never use and being charged for it. How long will it be before all of the phone makers finally wake up and quit shipping their phones with this item? But for now they ship them to use with your iPhone (they came in the iPhone box, remember) and they aren't "selling" them as your single headphones to work with everything. Do they work with your iPhone? If yes then they have done what Apple intended.

Which Lightning connector devices are the EarPods not compatible with? I haven't found any.

They work with my iPod Nano. And the other two devices he mentioned are iOS devices.

The EarPods ONLY work work with IOS devices equipped with Lightning connectors, that is how they were designed to work. Using them for other purposes may not work and is entirely at your risk.

The iPhone earphones have better sound. So why not simply produce an affordable adapter?

Because the headphones use a digital connection and a 3.5mm jack is an analog method, converters take up space and cost money.

Thanks. At least I know the WHY for the incompatibility... Will just use my other earphones with the Mac (but the new ones are more comfortable in the ears).
