best macbook air protection

i just purchased a MacBook Air 13inch. Looking for advice of what type ( if any ) cover is the best for protection. It's for personal us at home which I (or my 11 year old son) takes from room to room. A sleeve would add inconvenience and more possibility of damage. i don't know much bout skins & I'm afraid of overheating with a hard shell...Also I have apple care & don't want to spend more than needed. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

MacBook Air, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

I’ve never bothered with a shell. The biggest danger to your notebook are spilled liquids when the computer is open and drops. A shell does nothing for the former and little to nothing for the latter. I do have a padded case I put my MBA into when I travel with it. It is nothing special, just a $15 case I picked up at MicroCenter that protects it when I put it into my backpack (which has a separate container for a computer) or briefcase (which does not).

You should be. Hard cases or "skins" that remain attached when you're using your Mac are not a good idea. They will only impede heat transfer and trap abrasive contaminants between the case and the Mac, probably causing scratches that would otherwise not occur. Apple specifically advises to never place anything over the keyboard while you're using it. Presumably that includes keyboard "skins".

There are a variety of inexpensive sleeves you can buy to protect the MacBook Air while transporting it or when it is otherwise not in use. That's what I use and recommend.
