Can I turn all of these stupid iMessage effects off? I am not a 12 year old girl.
This has got to be the dumbest thing for people who use the phone in a professional environment. Allow me the option to turn all this dumb stuff off on my end.
jeez

Open Settings.
Tap on General.
Tap on Accessibility.
Tap on Reduce Motion.
Tap the switch on the right side of Reduce Motion to turn it on and disable iMessage effects in the Messages app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod.

For the most part, I agree with what you are saying - the Snapchat mask thing was almost creepy. No wait, it was creepy and a bit embarrassing as far as I was concerned.
Apple is concerned with selling to the masses and that is the younger generation. They snap (no pun intended) this crap up like nobody’s business and the cash keeps rolling in.
Unfortunately, while I am not 100% certain, I don't think that there is anything that you can do about it on the receiving end. You can leave feedback with Apple.

I pretty much feel the same way about messages. There is way too much emphasis placed on texting, social media and all of that type of thing these days, IMHO. However, it is a mildly amusing option that one can use at one's discretion.
One thing that bothers me about this is that turning Reduce Motion off, can reduce battery time or at least that has been my experience. This effects feature will only be an now and then kind of thing for me with and only people that I am very close to.
Done all that but it still happens. I have to press the x 10 times before it goes away
There is no way to turn the effects off. Just ignore the features. I did find out that if you have Settings>General>Accessibility>Reduce Motion>On, you will not be able to tap to get the bubble or screen effects when you tap on the Up arrow as described in the user manual.
Got it, but what about the sending to me of this stuff. Like I don't need my phone showing fireworks or lasers if someone sends something like that. I understand trying to make it more interesting, but some of us don't need "interesting".
I don't think there is a way to turn it off completely for other users, only to stop yourself from using them. Apple has such a wide user base they try to appeal to a lot of them. I believe you can also turn off imessage and that might stop them though since those things might not be able to come through as a text message.
yeah I get that. I don't want to be in a meeting and then start having my phone looking like I am playing a video game if someone is sending that stuff. What don't you get about that? Jeez... some of us are not at home in their parents basement.
My biggest annoyance was that the phone would bring up the effects menu when I wanted to send an iMessage. Sometimes the menu would come up when I pressed the send arrow, sometimes it wouldn't. I finally figured out that a very quick tap would just sent the message (whether Reduce Motion was on or off), while even a fast touch would bring up the dreaded effects menu. All very annoying. There should be an easy way to just turn the effects off completely. I have dutifully sent my product feedback to Apple on this issue.
iPhone 5s, iOS 10.3.2

Jeez. Just don't use it.
yeah, I use iMessage for PDF and other things too. I understand the user base theory, but I know more than a few people already who are not thrilled about making iMessage a toy.
PS: Go Big Ben.
Agreed....
Any way to get the regular long text box back as default - no 3 icons on the left side???
Not that I can see. As soon as you tap in the text field to begin a text, the three icons disappear, but they will come back.
This is crazy - $700-$1100 phone and you cant hide icons....sigh.
