I had the same problem - first thing I did was use the Assistive Touch (Settings / General / Accessibility / Assistive Touch) and configured the Custom function there to take a screen shot. Worked great, but extra steps to get there. I also played around with the power / home button combination that *used* to work really well (pre IOS 10); I'm getting better at it but not yet 100% - I hold the power button and click the home button really fast as opposed to a "leisurely" click - when I don't click the home button fast enough it just acts like I hit the home button by itself. Good luck, and practice practice practice!

Having "Rest Finger to Open" didn't work for me on my iPhone 6. Maybe due to poor dexterity? I end up, on several tries, getting Siri or home screen or lock screen or reboot. What has worked is General > Accessibility > AssistiveTouch, which inserts a semi-transparent button icon onto the screen that, when touched, offers 6 options. Touch Device > More > Screenshot. All credit to Banadula, the person who suggested this solution.

I have the iPhone 5s and when I upgraded to iOS 10 I was also unable to take screenshots as I used to. I used to be able to hold down the power/sleep button and then click the home button to take a screenshot. I think a lot of users used to do it that way too. With iOS 10, I can only take a screenshot by holding down both buttons at the same time and then releasing them simultaneously. It's harder to do and definitely a change from how it could be done before.

I Have the exact same issue on my iPhone 6S, and I

have had an iPhone since the 4!!

I KNOW how it is done and should work! But ever since

I went to iOS 10, it does not work!!

I've pressed the Home button first, then quickly pressed the

the sleep key and I have tried it again, doing the opposite.

THe he screen disappears or returns to home screen.

IF I keep doing this like 10 times, it might work and I hear

the "click". Something is wrong, we aren't crazy!

Apple has made a good thing into a mediocre conglobulation of a multitude of Fabulous ideas.... oh geez... that don't work together as well as a few simple good idea..... the screen capture is now so hard to use, Siri interrupts too often like that busy body who can't seem to get anything right and then stumbles walking in a straight line....
