iOS 10 Voicemail Transcription Broken? (iPhone 5s)

Hello, I have an iPhone 5s which I updated to iOS 10 this morning.

Everything is working as expected however, it looks like voicemail transcription is not working, and has actually broken my visual voicemail.

I'm in Australia, carrier is Vodafone, visual voicemail is supported. And I have Siri language set to English (Australia)

When I open Visual Voicemail, I get my Voicemail as expected. "Greeting" and "Edit" are clickable.

When I click into the Voice Mail to see details, and where I expect to see the transcript, the details appear with no transcript. And the internet loading icon comes up next to the battery icon. And the detail view immediately disappears, and I'm taken back to the first screen.

This happens so fast, I didn't even get a chance to actually listen to my voicemail.

Once the details disappear, i'm left with just the voicemail list, however note "Greeting" and "Edit" are greyed out for editing. The only way to bring them back is to force quite the phone app and relaunch.

If I try to get to the detail view multiple times, eventually the phone gives up and allows me to play the voicemail. Usually after 5-6 tries.

I have hard restart the phone (press and hold home and power button), reset network settings and tried different sim cards.

Any thoughts?

Agreed. Same issue since October. Been trying a lot--the following did NOT work on a 6sPlus:

  • Hard reset
  • Reset network settings (worked for a week)
  • Erase and restore the entire phone
  • Replace with a new 6sPlus (yes I had my phone replaced under warranty over this--NOT a hardware issue, it continued)
  • Manually calling into voicemail and erasing some messages, resetting network settings, etc. (maybe one week it worked)

Jury still out on my last attempt--removing my voicemail and putting it back on (from the carrier's side).

The carrier, T-Mobile, has expressed the same level of frustration as they have no answers either--but at least they recognize the problem and are TRYING to help me.

Been having the same issues since they introduced the voicemail transcription feature. It is beyond frustrating when I can't even listen to a time-sensitive message, which occurred today. I have an iPhone 6s 64gb with up-to-date software (10.2) on Verizon. Please fix this Apple, or at least allow us to disable the transcription feature...voicemail is literally one of the most basic features of a phone, so I can't understand how this could even be an unaddressed issue.

Having exactly the same issue. I'm in the UK and on the O2 Network. I first experienced the issue last year with my iPhone6 and at the time thought it was just an issue with the phone and iOS10. I absolutely hated my iPhone 6 as I had so many problems with it so the voicemail issue was the final nail in the coffin for that phone. Despite changing to an iPhone7 the voicemail issue remained. I'm so glad others are having the same issue as when I first experienced it I couldn't find any other info online about it.

I cannot believe that Apple have not fixed this despite numerous updates. I am also enrolled on the iOS Beta Software program and fed back about the voicemail issues but yet they still have't offered a fix.

I rely on my iPhone for work and it so frustrating to listen to a voicemail via Visual Voicemail on the phone. I nearly launched it out of my car window the other day through sheer frustration.

I have the 7plus, ios10.2 and transcription is not working. I've spent over 5 hours with apple, sprint, and even my equipment protection tech. Was working fine on my 6plus but i lost it when I upgraded to the 7 AND updated ios. Apple blames Sprint, sprint blames apple, and basicall TEP says don't call it's not their problem. A lot of people don't like that feature but I rely on it heavily. come on, someone (meaning either Apple or the carriers) has to have an answer!!

Here I am in the same boat. I run a buisness from my phone and it has become beyond frustrating. I can't listen to my customers messages half the time. They appear/drop down and disappear. Over and over. According to apple this is a know issue and the only solution is to wait on a update. Well here we are three update in the last six months and the issue is still there. At what point do I say enough and switch all devices to Samsung. It is literally driving me crazy try to listen to my voice mail.

SOLUTION FOR VERIZON VOICEMAIL TRANSCRIPTION:

I called Verizon regarding the new iPhone 6s and 7 feature: Transcriptions.

If those are confused, this feature is one that listens to the voicemail, and spells it out for you so that you do not need to audibly listen to the voicemail. The text of the voicemail will appear above the play bar, below the date and time.

IF you want this feature, you need to contact Verizon and tell them that it is a feature listed under voicemail on their end. Some of the representatives might escalate the case higher, as they are not sure what to do. Tell them to rebuild your voicemail and its settings.

This is Verizon's feature that sends the voicemail to your phone as a text message. The CON to the feature, Verizon currently charges $2.99/month for the feature which I find ABSURD.

NOTE: This is not to fix the apple feature that shows the text on the voicemail in the voicemail section of your phone. That IS an apple issue and not Verizon. For Verizon all you need is Visual Voicemail activated.

I too am having glitches with voicemail. I've received several voicemails today after updating to iOS 10. This particular glitch is irritating - every time I click on a particular voicemail to play it, it drops down to show the play button then snaps back up before I can click play. It does this over and over again (as well as not showing transcripts).

iPhone 6 on AT&T

I'm having the same problem with my iPhone 6 Plus (MGAU2LL/A) on IOS 10.0.2 (14A456), modem firmware (5.24.00). It happens when on WIFI or LTE. My business partner and I are on the same AT&T account, with the same phone (bought at the same time) and his transcription works. After I updated to IOS 10, I started having buggy voicemails issues, the most annoying of which is that I have to "attempt" to play my voicemails about 3 times before they will play. The first 2 attempts always start and then stop automatically and collapse, showing the voicemail as new/unread. The second biggest problem is that when I go to voicemail, it will freeze the screen for about 2 minutes about every 3rd time I visit, after having not visited it for over an hour. If I visit multiple times in rapid succession this doesn't happen.
