How do I enable/disable Digital Touch messages to expire after 2 minutes?

My partner and I have the iPhone 6 Plus and we updated to iOS 10 today. My phone seems to be working correctly with Digital Touch but his does not.

When I receive a Digital Touch message, the phrase "expires in 2 min" appears underneath the message on the right side. Shortly after, that phrase disappears to be replaced by "keep". If I press "keep", the message will not disappear in 2 minutes. Similarly, if I send a Digital Touch message, the word "keep" appears underneath the message (on the right side), and if I don't press "keep", the message will disappear.

However, this does not happen on his phone. When he recieves a Digital Touch message, no phrase appears under the message. The messages that he sends and receives never disappear. Also, instantly when he views the message, on my phone the phrase "kept" (along with the current time) appears underneath the message on the LEFT side of the message. I get notified that he has kept my Digital Touch message every time I send one to him but if I keep one of his, he is not notified.

All of our message settings are the same under Settings > Messages. For both of our phones I have turned on/off iMessage under Settings > Messages several times. I have restarted the Messages app several times. I have also restarted the phone by holding down the Home + Power button.

All the other features work for him including stickers and Bubble/Screen Effects, but I just can't seem to find where to turn on/off the 2 minute expiration for Digital Touch. Any help is appreciated!

(On a side note, we both have audio messages set to expire in 2 minutes and that feature works correclty for both of us.)

I'm with y'all, this issue is driving me crazy. I used the Public Betas all the way through. Did anyone else?

I'm having the same problem. Some of my friends think it's very weird that they received a message that I kept their videos. I've never done anything but watch him and then reply I don't have the keep option either so I'm just completely confused and frustrated I hope Apple fixes this problem and let us all know how to figure it out !!

It's really bizarre trying to explain that you didn't keep in the hold onto a video of some of them are just being silly to put you in a weird position .

Yes, we occasionally use the Messages app on Mac. As far as I can tell, we have the same settings. The option for "save history when conversations are closed" is unchecked.

Since Mac does not support Digital Touch right now, when I send a Digital Touch message to myself and then check it on Mac, the message appears as a static image on the Mac and does not disappear. However, it does disappear off my phone after 2 minutes. When I do check the option for "save history when conversations are closed", this process stays the same.

My guess is that this issue has nothing to do with the Messages app on Mac since the Mac doesn't support Digital Touch yet. Thanks for the recommendation, though, since I didn't think to check that.

Does the wording "kept" mean the same thing as a "read" when read receipts are turned on? I sent someone a digital touch message about 2 hours ago, and just now, it says "kept" (it is now 12:01am and the message was sent around 10pm) if this is the case, its a stealth way to know if someone is reading your messages without the recipients "read receipts" turned on.
