How do I enable/disable Digital Touch messages to expire after 2 minutes?

My partner and I have the iPhone 6 Plus and we updated to iOS 10 today. My phone seems to be working correctly with Digital Touch but his does not.

When I receive a Digital Touch message, the phrase "expires in 2 min" appears underneath the message on the right side. Shortly after, that phrase disappears to be replaced by "keep". If I press "keep", the message will not disappear in 2 minutes. Similarly, if I send a Digital Touch message, the word "keep" appears underneath the message (on the right side), and if I don't press "keep", the message will disappear.

However, this does not happen on his phone. When he recieves a Digital Touch message, no phrase appears under the message. The messages that he sends and receives never disappear. Also, instantly when he views the message, on my phone the phrase "kept" (along with the current time) appears underneath the message on the LEFT side of the message. I get notified that he has kept my Digital Touch message every time I send one to him but if I keep one of his, he is not notified.

All of our message settings are the same under Settings > Messages. For both of our phones I have turned on/off iMessage under Settings > Messages several times. I have restarted the Messages app several times. I have also restarted the phone by holding down the Home + Power button.

All the other features work for him including stickers and Bubble/Screen Effects, but I just can't seem to find where to turn on/off the 2 minute expiration for Digital Touch. Any help is appreciated!

(On a side note, we both have audio messages set to expire in 2 minutes and that feature works correclty for both of us.)

I'm with y'all, this issue is driving me crazy. I used the Public Betas all the way through. Did anyone else?

We both have T-mobile and updated our carrier settings this morning (to fix the cell connection issue), but the issue still hasn't been resolved. At this point the problem seems like a bug that is affecting people differently. I agree with the previous reply that people should still post here if they are experiencing the problem in order to bring attention to it.

Do your phones have different storage capacity? My 64GB 6s keeps everything and isn't notified of keeps but the new 32GB 7 I set up for my mom has the keep/kept prompts and deletes digital touch messages after 2 minutes. I just assumed it was maybe a storage decision, but did find it annoying once I noticed the inconsistency/lack of choice in it

Same exact problem. His shows keep option when sending and receiving mine doesn't show it at all. It says "mess will expire in 2 minutes" really fast or something like that then he gets a whole sentence that says I kept his message. When he presses keep I get "kept 12:00" (or whatever time) message. an option to turn this on/off would be helpful. he wants to turn it off so that they automatically stay. we have both of or settings set to never delete and it works for other features but not this one. also we share an apple id. mainly because we never both had iphones until recently. didnt have any problems until the update. he stopped receiving imessages (prior to the update) so i turned his on to receive from my phone. now (after the update) receiving other people is fine but when texting me he doesnt get the read receipt and I no longer get notified that he has text. the read receipt isnt a nig deal. but its all a little frustrating. we have SEs for now if that helps and i think i heard the SEs had a few problems.

I have the same issue on my iPhone 6 with 10.0.1. I have had only one digital message actually expire but dozens that say that I "kept" them. I get a split second message that it will "expire in 2 minutes" but that quickly disappears. I can find no place to change my options nor have I ever been prompted to "keep" a digital touch message. Please advise.

I think this might have something to with the "Video Messages" option in iOS 9 where you could set it to expire or keep forever. I used to have that option set to keep forever before upgrading to iOS 10. Now that option is gone from the UI, and my Digital Touch messages all automatically keep themselves - perhaps the setting is still saved in the memory, but there's no way to access it anymore.

Hopefully Apple issues a fix for this.

I did a reset of my phone, just holding the power and home button at the same time and now I am able to have the message telling me to keep the digital message. It's not resolving the entire problem but it's a start for me and maybe some of you. So maybe just trying reseting or restoring too if reseting doesn't do anything and it will fix some issues.
