Unable to set up Apple TV (4th gen) as Home Hub

I updated my iPhone 5s to iOS 10 yesterday and today I updated my Apple TV (4th gen) to tvOS 10.

But I am unable to set up my Apple TV as a hub in the Home app on my iPhone - the Automation tab in the hub says "Make Apple TV (4th generation) the center of your home..." but offers no means to do it.

I found this article:

Automate and remotely access your HomeKit accessories - Apple Support

Which says:

On your Apple TV, go to Settings > Accounts > iCloud and make sure that your Apple TV shows HomeKit as Connected.

But there is nothing about HomeKit on that settings page on Apple TV. (Yes, my Apple ID has two-factor auth enabled.)

Does anybody have this working? Any hints?

Thanks,

Martin

The answer at the bottom of this thread worked for me.

- sign out of iCloud on the AppleTV

- on your iPhone, go into your iCloud settings and remove the AppleTV in your list of devices (this is the key to solve the riddle)

- reset the AppleTV

- repeat the AppleTV setup.

Done.

What I don't understand is why in this day and age, big company's like Apple can't test there software fully before distributing it!!! This CLEARLY doesn't work!!!!!!

If it requires an iPad to fix it, is Apple going to buy everyone an iPad???? Why should we have to go out and buy more product that may or may not work from a company that already proved they can't make product that works???

I' have 4 ATV4s and went through many of the challenges and Apple support fixes described here. Ran into a lot of the same challenges and Eventually got three working but gave up on the last. Finally I got the last to work ... and can't find this solution documented anywhere. Note this is my observation, so I'm not sure it's 100% accurate.

It appears that in addition to the iCloud and 2 factor requirements, for HomeKit the ATV may require it be originally configured using wifi (not Ethernet). The failing ATV was setup plugged into cat5/6 and none of the repair steps with a Apple support worked - including multiple full resets and reconfigure. Finally I gave up and moved it to a new location without an Ethernet drop and did a full reset and configure -- but on wifi. It immediately popped into HomeKit!. Plus once setup, it continues to work when on Ethernet..

So observation - try a full reset and and setup on wifi.

I've tried everything in this thread - my 4th Gen Apple TV won't show up as a Home Hub. One thing I just noticed - which isn't exactly clear - is that I was setup as 2 step authentication instead of 2 Factor authentication. I had to change this in both my iPhone and iPad - Homekit / Home Hub still doesn't show up but support suggests it might start working tomorrow - we'll see.
