Watch OS 3 Draining Battery Very Quickly

Since updating to Watch OS 3 last night, my Watch's battery life depletes ridiculously fast. Every 20 mins, I witness a battery drain of at least 4-5% without usage. It is even worse when I am using the workout app. I have turned off background app refresh and the problem still stays. I've also tried rebooting the phone & watch as well as unpaired and restored from backup. Still nothing.

This is a huge problem, I haven't done anything with the watch today and I have lost 15% battery in a little over 2 hours. Yesterday I thought the massive battery loss was due to playing around with the watch a lot more. I shut off background refresh and limited what I put in my dock last night and I'm still having this massive loss. Apple needs to get this fixed ASAP because at this rate my watch will be dead before I get home.

I had this problem yesterday after updating to Watch OS 3 the night before. My watch finally died around 6:00 pm. I charged it during the night. Also, I turned off background app refresh for all apps I don't use regularly. Today, it seems much better. My workout, which lasted nearly an hour, only used 4% of the battery this morning. I recharged while I was showering, so it was back to 100% (just in case), and it's still there after an hour of normal use. Fingers crossed! I like the new OS.

I had a chat with Apple Support yesterday due to the massive battery loss my Watch was suffering from from the update and after they ran diagnostics on it, said that there wasn't any problem at all and that it was just the device adjusting to the new OS. Now, the battery life is slightly better than yesterday. It's depleting at a rate of 4-5% after around an hour or so compared to before when it drained at the same rate over the course of 20 mins. Battery life was actually really good on Watch OS 2 and I would lose around 3% max per hour. I just hope that in due time, the Watch would go back to this state.

If anyone's wondering, I have limited Background App Refresh to a number of apps and not all.

I Have the same issue my battery was great but now 5 % in twenty minutes the whole lot is gone in 6 hours.......when I looked at the Apple Watch program on the iPhone under general it is showing my usage time is almost as much as my standby time so there is a program active almost all the time...even though I am not actively using any programs at all......

I am a new Apple Watch user. I bought my watch Saturday. Though the OS was a bit slow the battery seemed to do ok.

I must admit I rather like the new OS but not at the expense of the horrific battery life I am seeing. I'm considering returning the watch before my return period expires? Sad because I was just starting to adapt to this new device.

in my case there seem to be two issues at play, which have drained the watch battery, and that of my iPhone 6.

firstly by default, every app on the watch is background refreshing. I turned all ones I don't use regularly, or need instant info from.

secondly, during the update, my watch defaulted to using my work exchange email. This has always caused battery life issues

with these two changes, my watch was on 25 percent last night. It was usually at about 30 percent on os 2.

these things may help.

I have the same issue too, I took my watch off from charge at 8am, by 10:30 am it was at 60%! This watch is becoming USELESS and its frustrating. It used to last the whole day and go to 30% charge with over 2 hours of activity/per day.

All of the sudden after updating I lost all battery life.

I removed the calendar sync from emails, removed all apps, removed background app refresh, reset, unpaired/erased and NOTHING is working.

I suggest a visit to a Genius Bar. Too bad my Genius Bar is in another country..... -__-

Same issue. I haven't even used workout today and the Watch has dropped to 16% tonight. Usually my Watch has over 50% left at night. I always charge overnight and it would really last 2 days... but with OS3 the battery is draining super fast. AND I miss Circle of Friends - it is a battled trying to get Siri to recognise which friends name I am asking to phone or message. Siri can't tell difference between Kate Mao, Kate McKeag and Kate McKinnon to the extent that I have to get the iPhone out to make a call... not good changes Apple.

Same here. I put my watch on at 5:15 am, did a 30 minute workout on the treadmill, and by 8 am I had lost 27% battery life. Battery dies out by 6:30 pm!

I restarted phone and watch, as suggested by Apple Support, to no avail. In one hour, I lost an additional 12%. At this rate, my battery will be dead before I have a chance to get home and get it on the charger.

Planning a long hike tomorrow - the battery will never make it through.

I hope someone more qualified come here to help, but while not, here goes my 5 cents: I heard that the first hours of the new OS is when the system is being indexed; this operation is done by IOS and OSX, so I imagine that WatchOS does as well; this is when the OS transforms the users information, just created in the first sync, in binary information, other than text and numbers, in order that it can analyse and give faster feedback to the user's requests; if this is true, it will really take some hours (days?) untill the system completes the indexing; after that you can expect less CPU utilisation and a normal battery life; but this is just a theory, once we do not have this confirmed from someone from apple tech staff.
