How do I disable voice control in iOS 10?

Hi. I've got an iPhone 6s Plus and just downloaded iOS 10. Now, when I accidentally hold the Home button too long, it makes a loud pinging sound and brings up Voice Control. I don't want this; I work in a cubicle and don't want to make this much noise, nor do I ever use Voice Control.

I went into Settings > Touch ID & Passcode > ensured Voice Dial was off. If this isn't possible in iOS 10, how do I downgrade to iOS 9.x? Thanks.

Since I have upgraded to IOS 10 I have the same problem with the voice control and I know a lot of colleagues and friends having the same problem. They all complain as they work in open space environments and mobile phones should be switched to silent mode.

Nothing wrong with your phone hardware ! it is a general issue and it is f.... annoying !

I think I've found something that might help.

Go to Settings, General, Accessibility, Home button. Set the double-click speed to Slower or Slowest. That should make the home button less sensitive to the long press that triggers Voice Control, so it should happen less often.

(I hope the menu options are correct, I'm translating as my phone is not in English.)

This might have a side-effect of making it take longer before a normal press on the Home button is recognised. I've tried to test it but I think it's psychological.

Doing the above, combined with the tip to make Voice Control beep more quietly, makes this problem less severe for me.

Hope that is of benefit to someone out there!

As a sidetrack to the topic I today saw why my car radio makes a dummy call which cannot be cut off on the radio equipment.

The voice control/Siri voice was activated and that silenced my radio and did not allow calling with it. This probably can happen when you have tye phone in your pocket.

So anyone looking for a problem with handsfree car connection over bluetooth might find this to be a reason for it not to work.

Making a (dummy) call on the iphone released the car radio from the phone and all is ok.

Most probably this is not a coincidence. Apple wants to force us to use Siri one or the other way.

They perfectly know how annoying is to keep Siri off, just to realize that Voice Control can be at any time turned on unintentionally while the screen is locked. There is no way to turn off Voice Control and have Siri off.

It is not a bug.

Those marketing people are really unique. Is it really that hard realize that the best phone would be

the one that we could have just simple phone and each and every other function is optional?

Available but OPTIONAL. Can You imagine? No Apple Watch, no Siri, no Apple music. Only things that You really want. The only thing is that other operating systems are even worse, so no choice 🙂

I updated iOS 10.1 yesterday only to find today when sitting in my car that the voice control again "decided to connect with my car radio system". I must have pressed the phone in my pocked whilst sitting down behind the wheel.

SO no help with the new IOS when it comes to using the phone over bluetooth towards my handsfree car radio.

Voice control is activated on the lock screen. I wish this could be optional.
