iPhone 6 on IOS 10, local weather not working.

Just updated an iPhone 6 to 10.0.1 and it all looks good except for one thing which is bugging me.

The weather app is not picking up my local weather.

I have turned location services on/off, disabled and enabled it for the app and reset my location and privacy settings.

I know it works because the BBC Weather app picks up my location instantly.

When you open the stock weather app, the spinning wheel appears next to the Wifi icon, the location icon appears but local weather remains blank.

I can add my location manually and it shows my weather.

In the notification section it says "Tap to Set Up Weather". I tap and I am back to the blank local weather.

I have tried using Wifi and 4G, still no joy. It was working on IOS 9.3.5.

The iPhone 6s and iPhone 5 in my house pick the local weather up no bother on IOS 10.

I am in Gibraltar, Europe.

Any ideas?

It is all due to a security feature in IOS 10 and on. Location services only woks for pages hosted by a secure web site, i.e. one that starts https://.

Depending on where you are the weather may be put out by an insecure host, i.e. one that starts http://.

You need to contact the site to tell them about this.

This is not the case. The weather is provided to Apple by Weather.com. I have reported it as a bug in IOS 10.

I have also reported it to Apple.

You may be on the right track though, this is happening only to certain places in the World. I wonder whether they are proxying SSL which Apple does not like?

A kind of man in the middle attack.

The thing is, all my other SSL apps work fine, Facebook being one which uses SSL and knows where I am, also Maps.

Will ask Apple again as it is only on IOS 10 where it fails. You would think they and Weather.com would have talked to each other?

Hello 😁 if it still doesn't work then Delete the Weather app > Turn your iPhone off and back on > Go to the app store > Search for Apple Apps > Find the weather app > Then download it. I hope this helps 🙂

Tried all that. Apple chat support suggested I factory reset my phone.

Thankfully I did not, the fact that if I travel to another country it works proves it is not the app.

Also, all devices on IOS 10 fail to find my weather and I have 4 Apple devices in my house plus I took it down to the Apple official reseller in Gibraltar and it failed on their devices too.

OK, updated to 10.0.1, 10.0.2 and now 10.1.

Still not working.

I'm sorry to hear this. My exact problem, too. I posted "Weather App Specific Location" early today (10/25/16). I thought iOS 10.1 would correct it. And that is correct that after iOS 9.3.5, the last iOS 9 series update that was available, that it stopped with the beginning of iOS 10. Let's hope it's addressed and fixed.

I am from switzerland and I have exactly the same problem on an iPhone 6.

I meet exactly the behavior on yahoo meteo app with curious values to inform me about the temperature.

The source "The Weater Chanel" website show the correct informations about my current location.

Please correct the bug in next release, it's very unconvenient.

This problem is definitely down to a bug in ios10. I have seen it now on 2 iPhone 5s and a 6. Both of the 5s started the problem on upgrade, the 6 belongs to somebody else but the problem is the same. In my case, rather than giving me no weather, the local weather for somewhere in eastern russia is displayed. We are based in Cyprus. I have the same problem when visiting the weather channel website using the phone. This suggests that the location information is being incorrectly sent to weather channel or misinterpreted at the website end.

Same problem here too tried it on my iphone 6 and 7 did reset and erased all contents, i even tried setting it up as a new iphone, ps. I live in Palestine

Same problem. I chatted with Apple customer service they told me to restore my phone. I did it twice but still not resolved. Local Weather page is blank.
