iPhone 6 on IOS 10, local weather not working.

Just updated an iPhone 6 to 10.0.1 and it all looks good except for one thing which is bugging me.

The weather app is not picking up my local weather.

I have turned location services on/off, disabled and enabled it for the app and reset my location and privacy settings.

I know it works because the BBC Weather app picks up my location instantly.

When you open the stock weather app, the spinning wheel appears next to the Wifi icon, the location icon appears but local weather remains blank.

I can add my location manually and it shows my weather.

In the notification section it says "Tap to Set Up Weather". I tap and I am back to the blank local weather.

I have tried using Wifi and 4G, still no joy. It was working on IOS 9.3.5.

The iPhone 6s and iPhone 5 in my house pick the local weather up no bother on IOS 10.

I am in Gibraltar, Europe.

Any ideas?

I'm sorry to hear this. My exact problem, too. I posted "Weather App Specific Location" early today (10/25/16). I thought iOS 10.1 would correct it. And that is correct that after iOS 9.3.5, the last iOS 9 series update that was available, that it stopped with the beginning of iOS 10. Let's hope it's addressed and fixed.

After 10/31/16's iOS 10.1.1 update, I checked it again. Not fixed. This resembles back when we were on iOS 6 and then iOS 7 came along. It took several version updates of the then new iOS 7 before the weather started being "specific" again and staying.

OK, after a lengthy chat online the other day this has been taken up by their engineer team. Case Ref: 100022865789.

Looks like some Cities have been deleted from the Weather DB - Gibraltar and Nicosia (Cyprus) being just 2 I have found.

You cannot even add them in manually on the app.

At least Apple are aware, let us know your Cities/Towns when you post as I have given Apple a link to this thread as an example and to show that it is happening to others.

Thanks,

Adrian.

Great detective work, Adrian. In my locale, those areas I mentioned in my post "Weather App Specific Location" are just a tip of the many that surround my area. It would monumental to add locations in. I would imagine that this "isn't lost" or deleted as users on iOS 9.3.5, as in my father's iPhone 4, can still bring up his specific location when accessing the Apple Weather app. That's why I mentioned that it's within the way this app, after iOS 10.X.X… was introduced that the specific locations were inaccessible to the app. I don't know what else to reference other than it's still functioning fine as long as the user doesn't upgrade past iOS 9.3.5, the last "iOS 9 series" operating system.

Thanks,

Just seen this:

http://bgr.com/2016/12/01/iphone-6s-battery-drain-replacement/

Which, though it makes no mention of weather, does seem to indicate location services and battery drain together with IOS 10.

My phone is one of the affected ones so I am currently waiting for my replacement battery.

Any of you experiencing the same fast battery drain on IOS 10 and unexpected shutdowns together with IOS 10 and lack of local weather?

Adrian.

😟 Sorry to hear that. I'm in the US and just updated it. (I never knew it was here.). Update did not go completely smooth. All appears to be fine now but will know more specifically RE: Weather App when I return home from a business trip to check out the specific location. Once the phone came up I had two problems: signing into my Apple-ID and the Weather App did not populate with any weather information for the one that picks up your location. All other preset locations worked. Then after a few minutes it appeared to correct.

I did read the accompanying information about this iOS 10.2 update. Nothing was mentioned about the Weather App considering there has been a lot written up about it. In my opinion I find it surprising that there's always an update on the Emoijis which, to me, are secondary when you compare it to weather-related information.
