Fan noise and overheating whilst charging

Hi there,

I'm hoping someone has some tips on how to stop macbook from overheating whilst charging or what the problem could be.

My Macbook Pro Retina (late 2013 model) which is running on Yosemite has been making a lot of fan noise mostly whilst it is charging. Both the magsafe power adapter and connector are hot to touch as well as the macbook. The only thing that stops the fan from going crazy is actually taking the charger out. (I brought a brand new magsafe charger from mac store couple of months ago).

I have been keeping an eye on the activity monitor and quitting programmes which have a high CPU % but this doesn't seem to be helping. I've also reset the PRAMM and SMC.

My thoughts are there is a problem with the charger or the battery? OR will updating to El Captain help? (I've heard mixed reviews about it...) Everything else seems to be working fine.

Thanks in advance!
