Touch ID not working on iOS 10 -iPhone 5s

I updated my iPhone 5s to iOS 10 this morning and as soon as I turned it on it said

"Unable to activate Touch ID on this iPhone"

And it wiped all my fingerprints so now when I go to put my fingerprint back on Touch ID

It reads

"Failed: unable to complete Touch ID set-up. Please go back and try again"

I've tried multiple time and turn my phone on and off again but it still doesn't seem to work

iPhone 5s, iOS 10

I have done all this options and even made multiple reports to developer site submittng device logs and and at the end of the day I received reply stating that your device is faulty please bring it to our authrised service center. That was a bummer becuase my phone worked fine until 10.0.1 and when I upgrade to next OTA it stopped functioning and showing similar symptoms of touch ID not working. Its not activated and can not be enabled to reregister the fingers.

Is this software bug or hardware bug which suddenly generated inside our device that we need to bring this to service center and pay for apple OTA release issue with the corrupt software...

Hello,

I have the same issue with iPhone 6. It was working fine under 9.X and on the first or second release of 10.x. Two or three days ago the issue has started and if I remember correctly my last iOS update was more than a week ago. As already mentioned iOS 9.3.5 is no longer signed. In the last two days I have tested all 10.x builds (iPhone_4.7_10.1_14B72_Restore, iPhone_4.7_10.1.1_14B100_Restore, 10.1.1 Build 150 (I believe that I was with this one initially) and the public beta 10.2 beta 3). The issue exists with all of these versions. Also re-calibrating the button doesn't work. My phone is still in warranty and I'll bring it to the local telecom for fix/replacement in the next few days. Hopefully Apple will fix this in the final version of iOS 10.2.

Basically I have nevers used the iTouch functionality, so it is not a big deal for me. What worries me is that this issue somehow impacts the performance of the battery. Now my battery drains too fast. It gets from 100% (fully charged phone) to 0% (no battery) in about five hours. And this happens with Location services and Cellular data turned off, with activated battery save mode. In the battery consumption report there were no applications listed with abnormal usage. In my opinion there is kind of incompatibility between the hardware and the software. Talked to some friends with iPhone6s - no such issues there.

Thanks,

Nedko.

hi guyz

So I am back again after a sudden issue which i guess completely wiped out the touch id from my iphone. this happened just when i was actually trying to do a battery replacement on my iphone 5s as i plucked out the homebutton cable from the board and as i seated it again with that bracket and switched on guess what the very first notification was :unable to activate touch id on this phone. lol after all upgrades and calibration some how it was working and now its gone. meanwhile you cant actually replace it with a new one because of the fact that the ribbon cable consist of resistances and i guess a programming code which directly relates with your iphone A7 cpu so you are just holding up a phone with a sensor which neither works nor gets replaced even when you own the rights and taking it to apple might be of no use now. I think its absolutely a software glitch i actually mean that the sensor and home button comes with the same coupling port so that makes no sense that button works but the sensor dosent its similar as if saying the key works but the lock's not opening lol

Let me clear a few things first of all to begin with , before giving any solution to each one of you as i mentioned earlier in my comments "cannot activate touch id on this iphone" or " unable to complete touch id setup...." or sorry the op was not successfull ,please go back and try again" these all are different issues with particularly different solutions. Let me add up the error 53 which is mostly seen in iphone 6 & 6s this error relates and tell you on connecting to itunes that there is a hardware fault related to your tocuh id in that case the pressing behaviour of home button minutley gets effected or may go completely dead. A damaged screen or a damaged home button can be the cause ,whereas from inside a damaged connecting port or a ribbon being twisted or the port covering bracket missing from the connector making it loose might be the cause but some how if you dont see this error in itunes your home button is likely to be alive and it might be just a OS glitch. As i mentioned earlier there are certian methods to solve "unable to activate touch id issue" by altering i cloud account settings and doing some little changes in settings whereas in all other cases such as " sorry the operation was not successfull......" the surface of home button where the sensor traces your fingerprint is considered to be filthy with dust or may have got some scracthes or there might be something restricting the tracing or identification process so the best you could do is clean it up with some liquid as you clean up your glasses and if this dosent solves the issue un screw the iphone from the speaker and mic side and pull the display from bottomor near from the homebutton side either by using a plucker or drawing a suction device or something you find easy to work with and just check wether the home button connector is seated well on the port of the motherboard or not , i would suggest to go through a few videos before doing this as the lifting of display requires a bit expertise. I would like to add some thing if your home button is working fine there is no way that the touch id might have died because of the fact that both works as a coupling and apple know this well that every homebutton comes with unique coding with the cpu hence they made such a unique piece that it never gets damaged or gets faulty ever even if the screen completely gets damaged it can only be the ribbon or connector as this unique piece cannot get a replacement by any means yeah apple can replace it but you know i cant say the rest.

So bst of luck and be carefull

These problems are all replaced to software upgrade and the fact that Apple did not test this with every unique hardware, firmware etc. As soon as I upgraded to 10 my battery could not hold charge and touch ID stopped working. Apple addmitted tri me that certain 6s phones made within certain window of time (months) are experiencing the problems, mine was one of them and my daughter's was not...they replaced the battery for no charge but that did not help either, which is what I expected. I read last week in USA todAy where the Chinese government is apply pressure to fix the problems with iPhone 6s.....though Apple says they can fix with bug patch I am not seeing how they can. If you are having these issues I would ad use that you start applying pressure to whoever sold the phone to you as long as it is retailer, carrier or apple...I read somewhere that they used w different style gpu chips based on where the phone was manufactured..that does make a little more sense to me as the costs of engineering code and testing code to assure compatibilty were much more than support for the few thousand folks experiencing the issue. Again demand action from you retailer carrier or Apple... They are all aware of these problems though it is like pulling teeth to get them to do something about it.
