iOS 10 battery drain / overheating

I Updated my iPhone 6 64gb to iOS 10 yesterday, today with normal low usage my battery (charged every night) has dropped from 100% to 38% in just over 1 hour I've also noticed that in use it is getting very hot something it never did under iOS 9, so apart from the positive of now having a winter pocket hand warmer it will be a useless phone after mid day I hope iOS 10.0.2 comes out quickly to address this issue, a very disappointed Mac user since Mac OS 8.5

iOS 10 is a horrible update. What was a perfectly fine and snappy iPhone 5s is now a clunky, slow and hard to use device. It's also dumber. on iOS 9 I could move freely and seamlessly in and out of my car's bluetooth connectivity. On iOS 10, once my phone connects to the car, whether I use it or not, the phone heats up and the battery starts draining.

Even the battery display logic is messed up. Before a hard reset, battery was 78%. After restarting, it was 20%. After charging a minute it was 70%.

I'm still recovering from seeing my Apple device display a blue screen on the restart. Talk about Apple going down hill... XD

I have an iphone 5s that I can use for two days before having to charge. But then I updated to 10.0.2 and couldn't get more than about 9 hours on a charge. I looked at so many forums. Then I accidentally swiped right on my home page and saw a long list of widgets that were seemingly updating constantly. Widgets I used and many I never use. I deleted all of them and now my battery life is back to normal.

OK...but why should we lose battery and have the phone heating up BECAUSE od IOS 10? Many of us want those running and had them running on IOS 9 without a problem. In my case, I have a 6Plus. So we are supposed to be ok with an update that makes us turn off all bells and whistles? I would rather have APPLE fix their mistake and let us enjoy our very expensive phones.

Just one question to all who troubleshoot the problem:
Is there somebody who has resolved the problem with doing a full reset?
I´m on Public Beta 10.1 now, resetted the network settings, disabled all things mentioned here and on official Apple documents without success.
The battery lasts about 4h in Standby with 20min usage..congratulations..
I´m about to do a full reset now, but I just want to know if there is a "success story"

Thanks for a reply if someone here still got battery at 10pm 😀

I did a full reset to my iPhone 6 (Verizon) and it was successful. When I reset the phone it also prompted me to update my carrier setting, which may have been part of the problem.

After the full reset and restore my battery usage is as it was prior to IOS 10.0.1 (now 10.0.2) and it has not overheated once. I do not have my apps automatically updating and my mail is not set to push new updates, but those settings were like that before the heat-up/battery drain issue. It's probably been about a week since I did the full reset and no issues.

I just updated to 10 and I wish I hadn't. This battery drain takes my battery from about 10 hours of use to almost half - WITHOUT MY HAVING DONE ANYTHING but a few calls and searching for emails. If I'd known this would happen I'd never have moved up to 10. It's not like battery life on apple products has ever been very good, but this is ridiculous. I sure hope Apple comes up with a fix REAL soon!!

Tyler, I agree with you but this did work for me. On 9.3.5 if you swipe right on the home page you get Siri/Nearby/?etc. but on 10.0.2 you get just a widget page. For my phone this page had every widget turned on to update. If I went to Settings those updates were not on. I deleted everyone from this new widgets page and still have functiong widgets. While it would be nice if Apple did a better job testing before throwing these things out here, this did work for me.

My wife's phone has been suffering this bug for the last week after updating to iOS 10, and I've been trouble shooting since then. I just discovered that it has NOTHING to do with the battery, and i priced this playing a movie over and over for 4 hours. The difference was toggling airplane mode.

after the test, i was curious how the iPhone 6s would behave if i turned airplane mode off and it immediately shut down and was stuck in the plugin prompt screen.

At this point i tried to isolate exactly what comm in airplane mode was the culprit, and it seems to be Wi-Fi. The phone is currently running the movie test again with only Wi-Fi disabled at its performing flawlessly.

I anyone else is having this issue, please test first with airplane mode and, if it makes a difference, to isolate what comm feature is causing the glitch. I'm very interested in the results.

I tried to reproduce this issue but without luck. On my phone the battery drain is the same with or without wifi enabled.

In the last days I have performed some factory resets without importing the backup.

The battery drain is the same as before but the overheating issue seems to be away.

Maybe it is a behaviour with the new installed iOS 10, if I have some luck it is away before Christmas...

I will wait additional three days and then I will have a look at a new phone...
