Do you really have a Mac classic, a very old machine now.

Methinks that the title of this forum may be throwing quite a few folks a curveball = "OS9" is being mistaken for "iOS 9" = not that *i*OS anything has anything at all to do with the OP's problem

The latest OS X version available in the menu here is "OS X 10.9" Mavericks

You will need to contact HP if that one does not work or the driver is not included in Apple's own list

Backwards compatibility can only reasonably go so far, I suppose - although large companies have the resources (people being paid whether they are drinking Jolt Cola & having Nerf Gun fights or writing code for older products) 😉
