iOS 10 Mail App lock screen notifications

You should be able to go to:

1.Settings

2.Mail

3.Under Message List select Preview

4.Change to 1 line

But then it just shows the sender.

In iOS 9 we had sender and subject line, which is what we still want.

I have it set to 1 line and can see the sender, the subject and one line of text from the email itself. This is the smallest option.

This is my experience as well, Paul. The only way to truly "fix" it, for me, was to hide previews and to remove mail notices from the Notification Center. That's hardly an enhancement.

Thank you for the reminder. I am thinking that the installation of the new iOS reset the "preview" option because mine was set to "on" for all mail and messages. The only outstanding issue is my Outlook App, and I'm guessing MS needs to make the update for iOS in order to change that setting.

I agree, this is very bad design. If you turn off the "Show Previews" feature as mentioned then what you end up with is a small box that shows the Sender, and then "Mail Message" and "No content to display", which ends up taking more screen space while showing less info than on iOS 9, where it at least showed the Subject line. Very poor design and QA in my opinion.

Did anyone ever get a response from Apple on this? It's ridiculous and poor form for Apple to go backwards and deny functionality they used to offer. I absolutely agree with the OP, I prefer it the way it used to be displayed.

Apple, PLEASE provide an iOS update to allow user to see a smaller preview or at the very least simply the subject line of the email versus this insufficient choice: 1) ZERO information other than who sent an email or 2) WAY TOO MUCH information including HTML coding.

I'd prefer an option where nothing appears on the Lock Screen or Home Screen, other than the numeral on the Mail app. But if I turn off Settings/Notifications, or even Setting/Notifications/Mail/Badge App Icon, the email indicator disappears. I thought this was how it worked in the past, but perhaps not?

yes its true, ios 10 has ruined the email preview. i turned mine off because it's completely useless now. it still works the old way if your phone is unlocked, but locked it shows a big box full of html code. there is no fix.

For me the problem only exists ONLY on my iPhone and not on my iPad. The following screenshots show lock screen previews and settings for both devices, iPhone on the left and iPad on the right. Both devices are running iOS 10.1.1. Same settings, different previews on the lock screen..

This is extremely annoying..
