Tiny font using mail in iOS 10

After updating to iOS10, the font in the body of emails is really small, too small to read. I have to zoom in, but then I have to scroll left and right to read each line. Anyone else have this problem?

Hello, all. I've been having this same problem, too, but mine is limited to Mail app. (Message and the like are fine.) This is particularly problematic for me as I am nearly legally blind. As you can imagine, I blow up the font size quite a bit on these devices. I can no longer realistically use them to read emails. To make things worse, I'm at attorney. My work life depends on my ability to read and write. This is killing me.

I've been in contact with Apple, and they said they were working on a fix. About a month ago, I was promised a fix in a few days. I learned about a week later that it hadn't been fixed yet. Since then, the person I was dealing with at Apple has stopped answering my emails.

I just went through all five pages here, and tried every suggestion. No luck for me.

I can empathize since I have eye spasms which can make it hard to see much less read. That's why I have my iPad and iPhone 6Plus (emphasize the Plus). And, I am dependent on them for emails as well as reading. Like you, I'm okay with iMessage and Whatsapp. Some emails are okay, but as someone pointed out, those generated by some programs are impossible to read.

Thanks for persistence with Apple. Obviously, they don't care about what you told them or have even seen what we have been writing here, & this is page 5! I've tried all these tricks too, and nothing has helped. Even the AOL app has tiny font so that hasn't helped me either. If I didnt have my iPad, I would consider getting another brand of cell phone! My son who works as computer programmer only buys Blackberry. He won't touch iPhones!

That's interesting about Blackberry. It sounds as if he'll have more trouble keeping to that moving forward, but I certainly wish him well!

Have you (or anyone else) found another email app that supports dynamic text? I have not. I have tried Outlook (which would be my first choice), Sparq (I think that's the name), and a few others. But none of them seem to apply the dynamic-text settings to email text. And that's what I need.

Actually, I think my son switched to Samsung, but he's in Israel & I am not so hard to remember. But, he did have me bring an iPad Air for my granddaughters last year:)

One of the previous answers stated that that person was having problems reading emails sent via Outlook on his Apple mail app. I use AOL, and I my font when writing them are large as to the accessible font setting I have. But, my problem seems to be incoming emails such as ones that are from GoToWebinar, and some others that are automatic mailing lists.

I haven't tried a different email and usually use AOL except with Apple then I use iCloud. So, I'm not the one to ask. We are at our other home in Maine, and I forgot our laptop back in our winter home in New Mexico, so I'm totally dependent my iPad Air2 or iPhone 6Plus.

What I found interesting is that my husband's iPad 3 (one before the iPad Air) won't even update the software to iOS10. So, he only has this problem with his iPhone 6Plus. He is 72 & can't even see the caller ID without his glasses.

I have noticed in the App Store that there are mail apps advertised. I just don't know what would help. Maybe contact the association for the Blind & Dyslexic as they may have suggestions for email program that might work for you. Or, maybe they can lobby Apple about their mail app!

Nope, it did not. I spoke with my contact at Apple late last week, and he said that the solution to the "tiny text" problem (yes, it has a name now, if an unimaginative one) is not imminent. He also says it is a priority for them.

I haven't done programming in years, but man, how can this be a tough problem to solve? It worked in every iOS before this one, so it isn't as if this is a new feature. Very frustrating.

Agreed. IOS 10.1 does not fix the issue either, although it claims it does. I hoppe apple addresses this soon! The phone is borderline unusable. I really expected more from apple. This seems to be a html and or exchange, active sync problem. APPLE, please fix!

IOS 10.1 notes below.

Other improvements and fixes

  • Fixes an issue that caused certain Mail messages to be reformatted with very small text
  • Fixes an issue that caused some HTML email to be formatted incorrectly

Running iOS 10.1. Still NOT fixed the tiny font in some emails.

I get notification emails from my bank and some parts of those emails are just unreadable, in iOS 9.x, I could the the mail app to dynamically adjust the size to something readable, now the mail app does nothing.

I also get some news emails that in iOS 9 were dynamically adjusted to the phone screen, as in the computer I could read them fine, also in the iPad in those devices there was no need to auto-adjust, now in iOS 10.1 this tiny font in some emails problem is not tiny at all. How could Apple miss this???, does nobody in Apple uses the things they sell anymore?, is Tim so busy at selling the idea everywhere of this update being "the biggest" Apple has ever made?. Do we have to wait to ios11 to have it fixed?. I wanted to buy an iPhone7, but with this, I am waiting, if not solved in 1-2 months, hello again chinese android phone!. I don't know you, but my iPhone 6 is less and less usable by every update, slower and slower and makes me less productive (wasting my time to increase the size of fonts in emails that previously worked perfectly?), Apple is turning into rotten-apples now... Hate to say, but this would not have been acceptable by Steve. sorry for the long rant, I love Apple, but now I am beginning to be extremely disappointed, the Chinese makers are getting better and better and have surpassed apple in several respects now (have you seen the new Xiaomi mix phone??!!), even without the billions apple has they are doing things apple will do in 1-2 years more!!!.

Only lies, empty promises and still premium prices, for not so premium phones, where is the value of an iPhone now?

OK, Update!

IOS 10.1.1 released today does not resolve this issue either, great! The phone really is unusable as others have mentioned. It seems to make more work for me and is extremely frustrating to use, this no longer is a, premium, flagship device in my opinion. I don't know why they can't resolve this issue. I am so close to giving up on apple and going to a android for the next two years if not forever. This is really unacceptable at this point and a little unexpected as this issue happened with IOS 9 as well for a brief time. Apple is aware of the issue for sure but really won't acknowledge the severity or resolution towards the issue. Ultimately they will lose long time customers such as myself over a font issue the impairs the ability to use the phone, perhaps they do not care, I don't know. Bottom line, Apple please fix this once and for all and treat it with a real priority! 3 IOS updates should have been more than sufficient to resolve this "tiny font" issue on IOS 10!

I was excited to see a "fix" in IOS 10.1. This should be a priority for apple. They are clearly in jeopardy of losing the older folks over this issue. I have tried outlook, it is a little better with the font size to be sure but not real comfortable with the app. Please take the time to read these threads and perhaps respond to one or all of them so that we know you are aware and looking into it. I for one would like to know.
