Does ios10 block PPTP VPN connections going through personal hotspot?

I'm using a iPhone 6+ and had upgraded to ios10 two days ago.

While I don't have a VPN connection setup on the phone, I do connect my laptop to the iPhone's personal hotspot to use the internet and sometimes connecting to a VPN.

Before my upgrade to ios10, my laptop could always connect to VPN while connected to my iPhone's hotspot.

After I upgraded to ios10, my laptop will not connect to the VPN I connect to.

I see reports that Apple has discontinued the use of connecting to PPTP VPN connections on ios10.

But most people having issues seem to be people that connect their phones directly to VPN in iPhone settings.

In my case my phone is just acting as the internet pipe to my laptop but it seems like they are blocking my laptop from connecting to a pptp connection even though that should have no impact on the phone itself.

I downgraded back to ios9 and my laptop can again connect to VPN.

But now my apple watch will not work with my phone because I upgraded the watch to os3.

Any ideas if there is a workaround for connecting to pptp connections using the hotspon on ios10?

L2TP is not working also when trying to connect from MacBook with personal hotspot @ iPhone with iOS10. There is no problem when connecting through ethernet or other WiFi. It is really big issue!

It also defo shows that iOS10 blocks any PPTP transmission when using hotspot. As long as not working L2TP over hotspot is not resolved, it is also issue.

I think you misunderstood. I have not used PPTP for months, if not year.

It is not working with secure L2TP over IPSEC! not from device, neither pass traffic with hotspot when connecting from MacBook with Sierra. I have tested also old PPTP passthrough and it also doesn't work with hotspot.

Absolutely no problems from MacBook with ethernet or other wifi connection (or even Android hotspot) - connects L2TP without any problems so it must be iPhone not Sierra issue. Borrowed also Windows 10 notebook, connected to iPhone hotspot and it is not possible to connect to L2TP VPN.

I ended up talking to our IT person and am now able to connect my laptop to vpn via L2TP through my iphone's ios10 wifi hotspot. All is working fine for me but I still don't understand why apple is restricting certain connections when acting as an internet pipe. I've never gotten free wifi anywhere where they went out of their way to restrict certain VPN connections.

Even with this working now both my wife and I are down on Apple products.

She hates how apple is trying to control her experience such as taking away the ability keep the phone unlocked for a certain period of time with a finger print added. We also dislike how they changed the lock screen UI where you cannot swipe to unlock but now you swipe right to activate the camera instead of up. We were both due for upgrades this year free from our company but neither of us have decided to do it. Android used to be so bad compared to ios but it's looking better than ever from a hardware and software perspective.
