iOS 10 - Show only downloaded music

Hi all, It appears that the Music app forces us to display our iTunes purchases. I do not like this and only want my downloaded music to appear on the device.

I'm not ok with tapping the >Downloaded tab every time I open the app. There must be a solution, so how do I fix this?

I would not have updated had I known this feature would be so strongly imposed. Thanks for your help.

You are recommending he do exactly what he, and others including myself think is unnecessary; in iOS 10 you now have to open: Music>Downloaded>Artist>Choose Artist>Album>Song. That's way too many steps just to play a track. The old default to Artists was much more useful, and probably the way people would search for a Song. I am not a fan of Apple Music, and have no intention of using it, so if I disable that from the menu, why would I still want to see Songs that aren't on my device?? FAIL

I have this same issue. There are ton of tracks that are in my iTunes library that I can't stand and do not want on my phone (stuff that my wife downloaded on my account, free samplers with songs I don't like). I shouldnt have to delete each song individually. The biggest issue that I have is when I connect my phone to my car via USB, the car shows all of the songs in the iTunes library, not just what is on my phone, regardless of whether my phone is set to display only downloaded music. this is very frustrating.

Just chiming in to say that the new requirement to navigate through the "Downloaded" menu option is really annoying, and a definite step backwards from iOS 9 (though I suspect it is part of Apple's plan to nudge people towards Apple Music subscriptions and away from syncing actual song files). It's obnoxious to have my phone's music library cluttered by default with everything I've ever purchased.

The way the iOS 10 Music app approaches downloaded vs. purchased music and exactly opposite what I would expect, and going out on a limb here, but probably most people would expect. I would expect (and would want) it to show what I have on my device via the top level menus, and then have a menu titled "Purchased Music" (replacing "Downloaded Music"), that I could go to find something I know I purchased but haven't downloaded yet.

Can you please add a setting to flip this behavior? Call it "Show only music on this device" or something.

same problem here, apple will not do anything else to force us to use its cloud stuff 😟

my iphone even start to download music that is not voluntary synced in it when I am listening in suffle play,

instead of my chosen song suddenly I start to old classic music that I have at home in my itune, but NEVER in my iphone, and when I look at the music apps, it was downloading the file and the image, I don't know where did it get it

even if I disable every music stuff/cloud/download I can see in my configuration.

I am afraid that it is going to kill my 3g data by downloading music in my back.

Completely agree. This is a step backwards. We have not yet migrated to Family Share so all music all of us download are all on my iTunes account. I downloaded only song's for my younger son on his iPad and iTouch but now he is able to see and listed to any song downloaded under our account.

In iOS 9 there is a switch in the Music Setting to "Only Show Downloaded Music" but I like the idea someone posted above if Apple doesn't want to go that route and instead replace the "Downloaded Music" playlist with a "Purchased Music" playlist and always default to only show and play only music downloaded on the particular iOS device.

Almost make me want to go dig out my old MP3 player from the unused electronics box and use that for my younger son.
