iOS 10 - Show only downloaded music

Hi all, It appears that the Music app forces us to display our iTunes purchases. I do not like this and only want my downloaded music to appear on the device.

I'm not ok with tapping the >Downloaded tab every time I open the app. There must be a solution, so how do I fix this?

I would not have updated had I known this feature would be so strongly imposed. Thanks for your help.

Does anyone from Apple Support ever actually answer any of these questions? I'd go to the "Patronise Bar" in a store but who has time for that?

This is the most infuriating development, alongside the amount of time it took me to find the shuffle toggle button. Apple is supposed to be leading the way in design, but design is supposed to improve things, and they seem to have lost sight of that.

I'm very sad to say this may well be my last Apple phone after many years with Apple since my first iPod. You've lost the plot Apple......

Now can someone from Apple Support actually di their job abd answer a question it's clear lots of people are struggling with?

Think I've worked it out.

In Library make sure you can see the "Downloaded Music" option. If you can't as I couldn't, enter EDIT mode (top right) and add "Downloaded Music" to the view. Mine has a grey bar across the top saying "Showing only music on this iPhone".

I think that might be due to a selection I made in iTunes. I must confess I don't see a way to change that setting so if you're not synching to iTunes this may not help. Maybe the selection option another user mentioned is visible if you're not synching to iTunes?

Then if you seect your playlists, albums, etc. from within the "Downloaded Music" view, rather than the main "Library" view, you will not see tunes you don't want on your phone. Huzzah!

Insanity? Yes. Oh dear Apple, I think you've finally lost the plot.

I also have this problem which is making the iPhone and iTunes unusable. I have two playlists i use in the car and they are now contaminated with the music i have purchased over the last 10 years, some i like and some i hate.

Why are apple forcing us to always see purchased music on the phone, I don't know. but they have to change this and put the Show "Only Downloaded Music" option we used to have.

Does anybody have any suggestions for options other than iTunes for playing music.

I am so disappointed in this app that I have been looking very closely at the Google Pixel. Also, the lack of a headphone jack on the new iphones are making this entire infrastructure unusable. My family is all iPhones, but this direction is just terrible. I much preferred the music app in IOS 9. All I want to do is be able to manually manage music on my phone. This new app does weird stuff like download music on its own from my iTunes account. HEY APPLE, I WANT AN APP TO ONLY PLAY MUSIC ON MY PHONE. STOP TRYING TO SHOVE YOUR MONTHLY SERVICES AND CLOUD DOWN MY THROAT! Ok, I feel better.

Apple, My suggestion is to have two different Apps:

1) Music App - play music in local storage

2) Cloud Music App - Allows people to stream from the their online selections

Not everything has to be bundled together.

I am having this problem. I tried to remove all music from iTunes and it didn't work like it used to. I still have music on my phone. The next step is I went to the setttings>Music> Downloaded Music> Edit> Delete All... You would think it would remove all songs since it says 0 KB. So I go back to the music app and there's still a gig of music on my phone. What the heck dudes? Apple seems to not take any of my comments of their darn music app to heart. It's a real shame they can't read!
