What's the issue?
Lots of people on iOS 11.1.2 and maybe other versions have been facing issues in the past 24 hours or so, suffering from reboots/bootloops after seconds or minutes of using their phone.
Technically this is actually a "respring" if you see a spinning circle rather than the Apple logo.
This means that Springboard (the home screen with all the icons) is reloading itself, but your entire phone remains switched on throughout. You will be prompted to enter your passcode again once Springboard has reloaded.
Some possible solutions until Apple publishes a fix: Force restart your phone after trying any of these as they may not work straight away
- Senior Apple Support Reps are suggesting manually setting the date to 1 day before the problem started. (Thanks u/xyzeian) Apple Support is currently being flooded with calls about this; please don't ring unless you have a separate issue. Their engineering team is working on a fix. UPDATE: If you have an app that has local notification with repeating settings (e.g. Headspace, Calm, or any other apps that use daily reminders) it will crash iOS Springboard, commencing Dec. 2 @ 12:15am. Disabling notifications for these apps may fix your issue.
• Changing your timezone to Honolulu, or changing your date and time to 1 week ago may temporarily fix the issue. It seems like the issue may be based on or linked to your system clock.
• Some people have reported that deleting the Headspace app (if you have it installed) will solve this issue. However, there are plenty of people that never had the app and are still facing the issue so this may not work. I have contacted Headspace support; I will update this post when I hear back.
• Disable Background App Refresh (Settings > General)
• Settings > About > Reset > Reset All Settings (use as last resort, or just wait for a fix and play outside)
Other recommendations:
• Make a full backup of your device via iTunes. If your phone is doing a RESPRING, not a reboot, then you will be able to back up even whilst it resprings. Your phone is replaceable; your photos aren't.
• If your phone is getting too hot, switch it off completely to avoid any damage, and keep an eye on this thread for a possible fix
What DOESN'T work (according to user reports):
• Update to the latest iOS: doesn't fix the problem
• Hard reset by holding Power + Home button: doesn't fix the problem
• Reinstall apps: doesn't fix the problem
• Restart the phone: doesn't fix the problem
Was having the same problem myself. Resetting the phone by holding the lock and volume down didn’t work.
I went to settings> General > reset all settings
This worked for me and didn’t erase any of the content on my fone like restoring to factory settings would. Hope this helps.
I have the same issue. I switched my date to Dec 1, turned off automatic time adjustment and my iPhone 6 seems back to normal. It is not hot anymore and the springboard doesn't restart constantly... This seems like a temporary fix FOR TODAY.... I really hope Apple is fixing this real quick because the battery was draining like ****.
This totally worked for me! Thanks a lot man!
I disabled notifications from Headspace from the Settings app AND Headspace app (opened Headspace>Account name>Settings>Reminders and turned off the “Remind me” switch, then closed the app).
Hope it helps for anybody else!
You fixed it! I turned off notifications on Headspace and another daily-reminder meditation app and boom-- it cooled down (my phone was overheating like crazy) and stopped resetting every 20 seconds! THANK YOU.
Hey lucas150, thanks for the great reply! I’ve been having the same issue this morning and changing my Date & Time setting and disabling Headspace notifications helped to stop the issue. However is really annoying not being able to use my clock properly. I’ll keep following this thread for new updates. Thanks again!
I have the Headspace App, and once I read this 10 minutes ago, I turned off the notifications of my Headspace App and instantly my phone went back to normal (No more black screens loading) and it cooled down (It was heating up like crazy).
Thanks guys, amazing support form Apple, as usual.
Hi Dear,
I faced the same issue and all the fixes worked as temporary solution though it messed up with my whatsapp and other email issues ( due to date changing).
But 10 mins back I connected my iphone 6s with itunes and there was an update for 11.2.
Since past 10 mins i havent faced any respring issue.
kindly update yours too.
I hope it solves the issue for you all.
Thank you 🙂
I reset the whole iPhone (using a full backup), and my phone began to work normally. After I began to download the apps, I noticed it started happening again so I paused all remaining downloads. After looking at lucas1501's response, I deleted Headspace, and my phone has been fine since. I have yet to redownload Headspace, so I am unsure if the issue would come back.
Hello,
I was also got this issue few days ago. When i unlock my phone and use for few minutes then automatically loading view was displaying and then phone locked automatically. I had tried many way to solve this problem but could not get proper solution and at last i tired "Reset All Settings" and its works.
General -> Rest -> Rest All Setting
I had this problem starting around Dec 1 and read carefully the reply from Lucas. This morning I took advantage of the software update and - although Lucas said it did not necessarily work, it has worked for me and ipad is back to normal
My problem: I would open my phone, It would act normal, then about 10 seconds after I opened it, (Even if I was touching the screen) it would go to a black screen and have a loading symbol in the middle of the screen. After that it would make my type in my password again. I tried restarting it, that did not work. Even when I did not sign in, it would cut off for a second, then would load and have my lock screen! It would drain my battery because my phone was always on. I finally solved mine using lucas1501's answer. I deleted my Headspace app😟 and my Sworkit app😮😟. Once I did that my problem was solved!
PS: Thanks lucas1501!
I have i7plus and it happened since today morning.
Restarted few times but didn't work. Follow this link this will help you.Fix to: iPhone 7 keeps going to lock screen - iphone keeps restarting - YouTube
I did and it seems to work. Notification problem I think.
I tried the below 3 together and i don't know which 1 actually worked.
1.I changed the date to 1 week back
2.Turned of notifications for the apps
3.I also uninstalled Outlook.
Something out of the above 3 fixed my issue.
Hi
i am using iphone7 and this happens to me every 30 seconds or so. locking the phone, changing auto-lock setting, setting the location setting, changing the clock, reset all settings, restarting the phone, re-installing all apps does not help. The problem still exists and is very infuriating as it exits the application i was working on. kindly provide a fix for this issue or atlas provide a date when it will be fixed.
I was facing the same issue and it is really frustrating, it doesn't allow to do anything. I did "Settings > general >Reset>Reset all settings" which is working fine for me in Iphone 7 IOS 11.
