PoE to power a switch

Does anyone know of an Ethernet hub or switch that can be powered from Power Over Ethernet? I have a location with no electric power but with a Ethernet wall socket. This would allow me to extend the network there without having to invest in an electrician and opening walls etc.

Thanks.

Morning Jan,

Again, do check the local building and safety regulations before choosing a solution.

yes, yes, we do not want cables to burn in walls. Messy.

The other (separate Gigabit) TP-Link devices TL-POE150S (injector) and TL-POE10R (splitter), mentioned earlier in my second post, do seem to be IEEE 802.3af compliant.

I saw that too.

Thanks for thinking with me! Much appreciated.

Hello Grant,

Various PoE devices are marketed as Gigabit (see, for example, http://content.us.dlink.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/DPE-301GI-GS_REVA_DATASHE ET_1.00_EN_US.pdf mentioned above). I do not know any details about how these or similar devices work. However, an article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_over_Ethernet at least indicates that a phantom technique can be used in certain cases.
