That's been said SO many times on this forum.

There are two problems here that seem to be getting mixed up. One is the TIME it takes from when you press the home button to the home page appearing. That is caused by one or more accessibility settings that require triple clicks, like the magnifier. This is not a bug. The phone must wait around for a little while to see how many clicks you do.

The second problem is where, when you click the home button, the zooming animation isn't smooth. It has a little glitch in it at the start of the animation. This is the one that Apple doesn't seem to have addressed yet.

Almost feels like it knows I'm about to Press home halfway through the press.

But again I preface this with I did a restore as new phone instead of backup.

iPhone 7 plus 128 matt black, arrived with iOS 10.0.2, immediately encountered lag. I updated to 10.1.1, with recovery dfu no backup, still whining delays in animations, proven beta 1 of IOS 10.2, no improvement. galaxy s6 one of my girlfriend is smoother. it is not possible that you have the most powerful processor at the time, and then the graphical results are these, my 6s is much better.

still no improvement of the fluidity of the iPhone 7 Plus with IOS 10.2. it's really amazing that happen, now at Apple live in the clouds.

Facing the same issue with my iPhone 7+ silver 128gb. The app closing animation is slow or lags and the animation when the home screen appears after unlocking the phone is a bit slow. when reduce motion option is switched on in accessibility settings there is a slight stutter while closing apps. Its definitely not smooth as an iPhone should be and why i brought it for. Hopefully it is solved in 10.2 update.

for now even the beta 2 of IOS 10 brings improvements from this point of view, lags multitasking, animations late, but who develops the software does not make all of this into account.

For those who have iPhone 7/7 + try setting the zoom mode instead of standard, plus you lose on the rotation in the home but all smbra fluid, except multitasking with many tabs open. Try and let me know. It is not the ultimate solution, but at least for a while you are happy

I have exactly the same problem. In my old iPhone 6s Plus was super smooth. Ios10.1

In my case the my iPhone 6s Plus is smoother than iPhone 7 plus. How is this possible apple ?

I confirm, even my 6s is smooth, 7 plus we did not seem to have the Samsung TouchWiz

Is anyone having lag when activating switcher in landscape mode on iPhone 7 iOS 10.1.1.?

Ever since i bought iPhone 7, there is that lag where when I press twice homebutton in landscape mode, app cards first show up as portrait then rotate to landscape, and animation is really bad.

Yes, I have these problems too. Hope to see a fix soon.
