iOS 10 Clock

I opened Clock for the first time in iOS10 and was aghast to find out that it now has white lettering on a black background, and there is no way to turn it back to having a much more readable, easier on the eyes, black lettering on a white background. I contacted Apple Support and the only suggestion they had was to give feedback to Apple.

The other annoying feature of Clock in iOS 10 is the Bedtime feature. Click it and you are told: Going to bed and waking up at the same times every day are keys to healthy sleep.

Oh, really? Give me a break. I don't need my iPhone to tell me when to go beddy bye and when to wake up. This is the most infantile feature yet.

I'm less worried about the colour than about no longer being able to change from digital clock to clock face. Have I missed some trick or other?

I never realized that was a feature before. However, it doesn't appear to be a feature now.

Submit your feedback to Apple here:

Meanwhile, there are numerous clock apps available in the App Store, many of which include an analog clock face.

Best of luck.

I did send feedback to Apple. I was wondering if others users felt the same.

As I've never used the built-in clock app in the 9 years I've had iPhones I'm indifferent to what it does. The icon is still a working analog clock, And the phone displays the time at the top of the display on the HOME screen and any other app that doesn't disable the status bar.

If I need time in other time zones I use the World Clock app from the app store. In addition to the current time anywhere in the world, it's got a graphical display with a cursor that you can position over a future local time and it will show the equivalent time elsewhere. As well as both analog and digital clock faces for every time zone that you have configured. The iPad version also has chimes if you want them.

I love the new look, way better than black letters on a white page. I hated most of the visual changes they made in iOS 7, including the blaring white in your face backgrounds of the clock and notepad apps. Apple has been telling me for years now when to get up, it's a nice feature to have....Alarm Clocks. So what if they have a function to tell you when to go to bed. If you don't like it, don't use it. I can say that there have been many nights playing World of Warcraft, or other games, where I wasn't paying attention to the time and found that I should have hit the hay an hour or two ago. I wouldn't use it now, because I don't play them anymore, but I could have used the function then. Quit being a hater and move on.

I echo your sentiment D. Not happy with the predetermined Dark Mode!

As a regular user of the World Clock during the 'DAY' to track other timezones for business, I was really unhappy to see the Dark Mode on the entire clock app. Trying to read it during bright sunlight was very difficult. Sure it might be fine at night.. but really I only use the Alarm at night but use World Clock, the Stopwatch and Timer during the day.

Apple developers - we want OPTIONS not PRESETS. Also I will not be using the Bedtime setting...

You call it Nanny Features; so do I. But just don't use them.

On the other hand Nanny features seem to be a great bussiness.

Why otherwise so many people use sports/ life trackers that tell them: don't use elevators; use stairs; you only made 345 steps today; you had a really bad night etc. When I get up in the morning and I was up 5 times during night, I don't neccessarily need a device that tells me that my night was bad; I do know that!!!

I use the Clock app daily both as my alarm clock and as my stopwatch when I run. The black background is ok at night for the alarm clock, but the black background is unreadable by me in bright daylight when I run. I contacted Apple Support and as of now there is no fix. So I'm searching for a replacement app. Any suggestions for an app that can replace Clock?

Danial Voran, I agree with you the white on black is horrid! And I agree also that we should be given the ability to make a choice!!! This is just another item added to the list of things I dislike about iOS10: mostly dislike UI changes that are beginning to little by little stray farther and farther away from the original Apple aesthetic. 😟
