Camera Roll pictures out of order in iOS 10

I just received my new iPhone 7 and after successfully restoring it from a backup of my iPhone 6, I noticed that all my photos in the Camera Roll are out of sync. I realize they are supposed to be in chronological order from when they were taken, but they are very mixed up...some photos/videos that I took back in February. I have always restored my new device from a backup whenever I've upgraded to the latest iPhone and have NEVER had this problem.

I have read through some of posts on here where people have had this issue or something like it in the past, but nothing has been listed as a direct fix for this problem. I have tried anything and everything I have found online or here as a way around fixing the out-of-order, and nothing has worked.

This is extremely frustrating! Would someone please help?!

I have the new iPhone 7 - 256Gb Black, running iOS 10.0.1.

Thanks!

I used to had the same problem after installing ios 10. here the way i "fixed" it.

1. Copied all pictures and videos to my mac (there they were in correct order)

2. delete all pictures and videos on my iphone

3. used the app "photosync" on my iPhone and mac and tranfered all pictures and videos back to my iphone over my wifi network. After that the pictures were back in order in my camera roll. (For that the pictures have to by organised by date already on the mac)

( it took a while cause i had over 5000 pictures)

if you cant organize the pics by date on the mac, then there is an option to rename all pictures and videos with an exiftool and put as filename the exifdata like "2016-25-08.jpg" -> then sort by name and copy them back to the iphone with photosync

but after all its just ridiculous that apple doesnt fix this now for over a year....

Hello,

Its annoying yes, but still iOS11 hasn't fixed this bug yet.

Although i found a workaround to address the solution.

Step 1: Select all the photos that are out of order

Step 2: Click the share button and use the duplicate option

All the photos will be duplicated and will be sorted in order

Step 3: Delete the original ones so that the duplicated ones become the master copy.

Richie

Just replaced my iPhone 6 and did a restore from backup - I have over 9000 photos now completely out of order. There are pics from 5 years ago which show as the most recent. I had no idea this was a risk or I wouldn't have replaced my phone. I am not reading where there's a fix for this! What's going on - any updates? Do we need to publicize this a little more so it gets some attention? It's been over a year since this question was posed.

This is the EXACT same thing that happened to me. I opened my camera app to take a photo and then I noticed my camera app was being very buggy. I could switch from video to camera or pano but the image was frozen so I reset my phone and then it came back on I went to camera roll and noticed everything was gone. After a few minutes all my photos started popping back up and hey we’re coming back in order until it got to a certain photo and then they started coming back up out of order. So now at the bottom of my camera roll I have photos from 2014 and then in the middle of my camera roll is the last photos I took before this happened. I thought about restoring my last back up to see if that would fix them being out of order because I did a back up on my MacBook like 2 days before this happened to me.

Hello, I had this problem on my new iPhone 8+ 256. I was running 11.0.3 at the time.

My camera froze and I had to do a hard restart to make the camera work again. When I went to look at the picture I took, all my camera roll was out of order. Basically, what should have been the beginning, had now started in the middle. I have been on the phone tech support and also was sent to the Apple store genius bar. I have received no help yet and they all seem baffled by it. Tech support was more concerned with my phone crashing and apps crashing. I wish I had a way to fix it but no one has any answers. It is somewhat comforting to know that my phone isn’t the only one that has done this. If I learn anything I will post it here.

I've never had this issue before but last night randomly while listening to apple music my springboard crashed. Once it did that my photos just said restoring and I had 0 and it was basically putting everything back. When it decided to do that for no reason it took photos from 2014 and put them in front of my most recent. So mine is completely out of order and it's insanely frustrating, quite possibly the worst thing that could happen since I refer to my photos so much. I just updated to iOS 11.1.1 for the stupid text "i" fix and now this. Time for an android?

iPhone 7 Plus (JB) / 256GB / iOS 11.1.1

I’m having this problem in November 2017 on iOS 11.1.1!

This problem has been going on for awhile.

For me, it was initially explained as my switching from a Google Nexus 4 to an iPhone 5. Not everything was out of order, but some dated incorrectly due to the import. I think I let it slide that some more were off when I upgraded to my SE.

Now I’m on an iPhone 7, adding pictures of my pets to a pets album, IN the ORDER I took them, and they’re STILL not chronological?

That’s too much. This problem needs to get fixed. For real.

I got the problem a while back during an iOS 10.x.x upgrade and it is getting worse.

I had another "shake" in my camera roll after upgrading to iOS 11.1.x and another one when switching to an iPhone 7 and restoring my backup.

I can imagine the database get screwed at some point point but why isn't there a way to rebuild it ? Or even simpler sort the camera role by date taken ?

It is really annoying as every app that permits to post picture will show the camera roll from the end and if it's in disorder it is a real pain to find the one you want to send.

Has anyone tried an app like anytrans or phone rescue to try to rebuild the camera roll ?

Yes, this trick should be one of the answer, a little inconvenience but worth to try.

I have about 1.300 photos in Camera Roll from 2012, and it takes about 3 hour to duplicate all photos in to right order.

It's helps after a long time frustrating since updating my iPhone to iOS 10.3.2 a few month ago.

Update:

- Some Memories missing, but it does not matter to me as long as the Camera Roll is normal again.

- Some people in People Albums also missing.

- Albums associated with other apps (such as Whatsapp, Instagram, Pinterest, etc.) are missing, yes because the original photo has been deleted.

I am also having this same issue. It happened when I came back from abroad and changed out of my Spanish SIM card and put my normal US one back in. My whole phone had problems, I had to set it up as a new phone and couldn't even restore it. I just had to send everything into iCloud though notes, files, reminders did not transfer over either.

I also have 2 copies of every picture, and can't delete some of them.

I have a 7+ and iOS 11.2.4

Let me know if anyone every finds a solution.
