iOS 10 HomeKit Lock Automation

Why do automation actions for HomeKit locks in iOS 10 require user action To run? for example a trigger to arrive at a location pushes a notification asking the user if you want to run the scene or not To unlock the lock. Kind of defeats the purpose of the automation it seems.

I would also like to add if you are wearing an Apple Watch you are already authenticated with your iPhone so there is ZERO reason the security based automation cannot run without user intervention within this context.

Something must have changed, because now my August Lock with automatically unlock when I cross my geofencing limit... I now simply get an August AutoUnlocked notification and I don't have to act on it.

FYI: August has just release a version (5.2.3) to correct problems launching a lock operation from the Today Widget. Will test that right away and keep you posted

Mine is a Schlage lock and since going back to 9.3.5 the geofence has worked perfectly both going in and out...perfect. Bloody annoying that I cannot run ISO 10 though particularly as Apple keep trying to force me to upgrade.

I cannot understand why they did not make the notification feature a user option then folk could have made up their own mind about the security issue?

You missed the point, it is not the geofence that isn't working. We get the notifications. The problem is, since upgrading to iOS 10 when arriving inside the geofence the door does not unlock like it did in previous versions. Instead of unlocking the door you get a notification asking you if you want to run the script. In order to unlock the door "automatically" you need to dig your phone out of your pocket (hopefully after you have pulled into the driveway and parked), remember not to press the home button and press the power button instead so you will see the notification on the screen, press it just right so it will give you the option to "Run Script" and the door will unlock. If you are unfortunate enough to habitually press the home button and see the home screen you need to either drill down to the Home automation app to unlock the door or pull up the notification so you can press it and have the script run.

I used to be able to pull in, grab my packages and walk in the door. Until some bonehead at Apple decided there is a "better" way.

Oh, and I almost forgot the real treat. I use siri to turn off all the lights and make sure the doors are locked as I go to bed. Doesn't work from a locked screen. Use the finger print reader to unlock the phone and then you can use "hey Siri" to automate locking all of my doors. Not too much of a problem as long as you remember to do it before leaving your phone on the table and you have to get back out of bed to unlock the phone again to "lock" the doors.

I remember when computers used to make our lives easier.
