Iphone 7 and 7 plus's screen dimmer/yellowish than iphone 6 and 5s

Hi,

Is anyone facing the same issue as me when looking at their new iphone 7/7plus?

I noticed both the 7 model's screen resolution were more yellowish and dimmer than the previous models even though all of them had their brightness set to the maximum.

Does anyone have any idea why is it like that? Thanks!

This is just disgusting. If Apple cannot produce units which are uniform, they should keep swapping out until YOU (the paying customer) get one which which is identical to that which Apple represents it is selling. I still stand by my original assertion--buy direct through Apple and pay in full (no carriers, no contracts, etc.). It is far easier to return that way.

Your pictures, by the way, are awful. I don't see how any reasonable person can say that either of your two iPhone 7 units have a better screen that your old iPhone 6. That is just ridiculous.

I agree completely. I'm very disappointed with Apple. I think they should do the swapping out there. They should find an iPhone 6 Plus and then open up as many iPhone 7 Plus boxes as needed until they find one that is brighter and "more brilliant and vibrant" and send me that.

One thing I'm considering is take the refund and go to the Apple store and do that there. And if I can't find one - maybe the Japan models are all manufactured poorly - switch to some Android phone and be done with Apple. That would be sad to do after all these years, but it is so frustrating.

It looks Ok on this picture, but look at it side by side on a white background (such as the email app) and it will quickly become apparent how "off" it is. Apple suggested this crap-fix to me, too. I am just not buying it. Hold a luminance meeter over the two screens on a solid white picture if you really want to understand the difference.

It makes me angry that Apple suggests "fixes" like this when they absolutely know it is not a "fix" at all. It is more of an optical illusion than anything else (actually it is just that--an optical illusion).

Yes, I can't disagree with you. For the sake of my own sanity, I've reset my iPhone 6 Plus and shipped it off to my sister now so she can use it instead of her iPhone 4S. So I can't compare anymore.

I don't have a luminance meter, but I have no doubt you are correct. I've been spending the last three months doing all those comparisons you mention. And I see the same things you do.

Apple's engineering team's explanations have from the beginning seemed like "The Emperor's New Clothes." Like we are made to feel dumb if we don't see what isn't there. I think the advertising is incorrect, and their explanations make no sense.

Like I said, I was given a refund and thus had the option to go elsewhere. But I decided, for me, to just drop the issue for now and live with the color tinting change (select the last option, turn intensity all the way down, turn the hue slider to about 70%) which is liveable for me at the brightness levels I normally use.

But I agree with you. I just couldn't obsess over it anymore and didn't see an easy alternative, though I went to look at Sony and Samsung models.

I have an upcoming trip to the U.S. and the fact this is now an unlocked model helps. Basically I compromised. And Apple did give me a refund, so they didn't leave me in the lurch.

But the advertising is not correct. I hope Apple owns up to the problem and offers a true fix at some point.

I think it's more or less hopeless. I went through multiple versions. To help a bit with the yellowish non-white problem you might want to try going to

Settings > General > Accessibility > Display Accommodations and turning Color Filters ON.

I selected the Color Tint option and turned the Hue slider up to about 80% of max and it's more tolerable.

Or you can return it within 14 days and keep using your iPhone 6S until the next model comes out.

Hello,

I thought I was the only one facing this issue! I noticed the exact same thing where my 6s displays whites that are just neutral whites and my iPhone 7 tends to be on the warmer side. I don't know why but this effect where the iPhone 7 screen is dimmer reminds me of AMOLED displays.

My idea would be that the glue between the LCD and the glass needs some time to fully dry but i´m not sure.

Also, I have noticed my iPhone 6s is a lot smoother. In particular, the animation when you click the home button feels liquid smooth on my 6s whereas the iPhone 7 feels like the animation is cut in two pieces.

Last thing I noticed over the past 24 hours is overheating. Whether it's charging, doing simple tasks, this new phone overheats very very easily.
