No headphone audio bug on iOS 10

I updated to iOS 10 and ever since occasionally there is no headphone audio. I reboot my phone and it works fine.

This happens randomly and occasionally.

Anyone else getting this?

I'm having this same issue since iOS10 release changed the phone yet it is not resolved. Another option told me was backup in iCloud and restore from that. Anyone tried this?

In fact when the headphone goes off, a quick click on speaker and after hearing the sound from speaker and switch off speaker brings back the audio to ear phone. Yeah, it's frustrating that this issue is not resolved even after this much of time. I though in 10.0.1 upgrade fixed because I didn't hear the issue for some time but later I faced this and even now after iOS 10.2.1 updates the issue is not resolved.

SOLVED! (well kind of)

The problem will go away if you buy the new earphones which do not connect to the audiojack but instead connect to the Lightning Connector.

As for existing headphones, you could buy an adaptor for those....and you could even buy other adaptors so you can listen to music and charge your phone at the same time.

I hate it that Apple hasn't fixed this bug in over 6 months and that the workaround entails buying more Apple products.

You gotta decide whether the bug is bad enough to merit investing in new equipment (but at least an adapter isn't that expensive).

Cheers

This problem was on my iPad, after upgrade to IOS 10.

I reported this through the Apple website and eventually arranged a call with their support staff. Their operator told me to try plugging a headphone or speaker into the audio socket. I did so and the sound came through. She then told me to unplug the headphone and sound came back to the internal speakers.

It has been working for 24 hours now. Only time will tell if this is a permanent fix, but at least I now have a Case ID with which to report any further problems with the sound. Could it simply have been a dirty contact?

If you have the same problem, give Apple a call. It seems to be the only way they will react to this problem!

Hi,

I've had the same issue with two specimens of iphones SE (16 and 64 GB) with the latest 10.3.1 ios and the two previous versions.

Changing headphones does not solve the issue. I have traveled to Europe using a local sim/carrier and the problem never showed up. I wonder if the users complaining in this thread all have T-Mobile sim cards in their devices or not. I have purchased a 6s and a 7 and never ran into this issue using the same T-Mobile sim.

I opened a case yesterday but now, after reading all these comments, it looks to me as a well known issue that hasn't been addressed so I am afraid Apple is pulling my legs and wasting my time.

Anyway, I think it is fair to expect Apple to replace a non working device with a working one under warranty once you head to the store.

It's not a T-Mobile issue. I have Verizon and this issue.

I skipped from page one to here so some is this might have been stated already.

Confirm the toggle in and out of speaker mode to reset the phone app. Note even close to acceptable. Apple, you call this an iPhone for Christ's sake! Make the phone work!

Have this problem with Pandora and iTunes Music also. Closing and reopening the app usually but not always clears the prob.

I use three different headsets with my phone. Two Apple ear buds and a Bose. Has happened with both Apples, can't confirm the Bose.

For a while I thought this might be triggered by using my Jawbone headset, but I've since eliminated that association.

I've unplugged and re plugged, twisted, and everything else a 30 year engineer with an audio focus would think to try. It's an Apple issue.

Apple, please address this. It is simply unacceptable to sell a phone that doesn't work as a phone.

Same here after iOS 10.3.1 I have noticed 3 issues so far:

1) no audio for whatsapp calls (VOI) and sometimes no audio for music

2) location services once activated can't be deactivated as it is grayed out (I fixed it after disabling the "restrictions" and then i es able to disable location services (GPS)

3) for the first time ever it lagged on me, I was scrolling down a website and the response time and frames were lagging (looked chopped)

apple please get these issues fix quick!!!

Hello,

Just an update: apple changed my phone twice since I reported the problem with the first SE64 GB. Both upgraded 128 GB SEs had exactly the same problem.

An Apple store (Lennox Sq in Atlanta) representative mentioned it was carrier related (TMobile) and that they were waiting for an update. This information was vague (I would say even b.s) and was later contradicted during a chat by another apple support manager to whom I mentioned my conversation at the store. The store representative also totally made the idea that it was also related to the fact that I would restore my phone from an Icloud backup instead of a clean install. I am using the phone oveseas with a different sim card provided by Vodafone and still experiencing the same issues occasionally.

There is no fix: it just happens randomly after the phone has been turned on 24-36h. If I remember to reboot the phone at night the problem does not occur. It might be related to the boot time or the number of calls placed (?). Don't waste time or money on headphones.

Everytime I've experienced the isse, toggling the speaker phone on off reroutes the audio to the headphones correctly, So far the problems occured with phone and facetime audio/video calls.

They changed my iphone also once and since the release of iphone 7, I am having this issue. It doesn't only annoy me, it also annoys my friends and family. When I get a call I have to tap on the speaker twice for the sound to come through. Sometimes even after tapping on the speaker, i still have to wait around 10s before the sound comes through. The basic function of the phone to receive calls and if they can't get this right, then nothing can satisfy me. I keep waiting for an update in a hope for a fix but it seems like apple doesn't care anymore.

I tried everything I've read in all forums and kept having the issue. Got an Iphone 6s Plus with updated iOS.

A friend of mine suggested that the issue could be related to the interaction of some apps with the iOS, especially those that deal with the speakers/sound system. After tracing down which apps I used just before the issue appeared, I detected a strong correlation with both Skype and Wechat. I use both apps for voIP and in one occasion Wechat showed a message saying something similar to "the sound channel is being used" and made me think that an app could be blocking the channel.

Since then I have used Wechat only for text messaging (I really need it) with no further issues and haven't opened Skype at all. No more headphone audio bug. Still testing but thought was good to share.

Hello Apple! I've been having the same problem since iOS 10 showed up.. first on my iPhone 5 8gb, then on my iPhone SE 64gb. Currently on iOS 10.3.2 - still the same.

It's very annoying. As others have pointed out, the iPhone is also a ... phone. Not being able to talk on the phone is quite a serious problem, which should be fixed with high priority.

I wonder if Steve Jobs would have left this bug unfixed, or if he would have fired half of the engineering&support team.

Wow. And I thought I was the only one having this issue.

It's freaking annoying that every time I have to make a call via the headphone, I have to click the loudspeaker icon on and off to get audio through. If I answer the call without the headphones plugged in, the phone freezes for a few seconds (call stays at 00:00) and then regains itself, by which time the caller on the other end would think I am not available and cut the call.
Its maddening really.

I started getting this error after the update to 10.2.1 (directly from 9.3) - I purposely stay away from updates because of deal-breaking bugs like this. The last update I did from 9.2 messed up the battery life, wifi connectivity and 3G/4G network switching. Things became a little better after 9.3 and I was pretty happy with the phone for the while. Two apps forced me to update to iOS 10 because of promised features. Now look where I have ended up again.

Apple's quality control over updates is super poor, even if they control everything related to their products. This doesn't make it really different from any other 'normal Android' phone if they don't address this issue very soon. We're paying a premium anyway. I expected them to fix this over 10.2 -10.3.

APPLE, IF YOU ARE WATCHING THIS SPACE, WE'RE WAITING!

IOS 10..3.2 iphone 6S. Same issue with using earpods and no sound/microphone. Occasionally also when I answer a call with no earpods in, the call shows answered but the time doesn't move from 0:00 and I cannot press hang up or anything else. The other person has to hang up. Anyway, when I was having a problem with the sound, I can quickly press speaker on and off and the sounds goes back to the earpod. But when I'm using an app on the phone like youtube and the sounds is not playing through earpods, there is no way to clear this other than rebooting. When this happened last time, I grabbed a lighting connector earpod and plugged that in and the sound started going through straight away from youtube, then I plugged back in the standard earpods and they continued to have the sound. Thought I'd let you guys know in case it helps anyone out.
