iPhone 7 Bluetooth connectivity with Ford SYNC malfunctions

I'm using my iPhone 7 with my 2016 Ford Fusion with SYNC. The Bluetooth connection worked flawlessly with my iPhone 6S. Today, the iPhone 7 experienced significant connectivity issues, including regular dropouts, dropping the connection entirely, and music just stopping playing. Not a cellular data issue as the songs were on the iPhone. Resetting network settings, turning bluetooth on/off, and dropping/re-connecting to the car did not fix the issue. No equipment or other things have changed except the switch to the new iPhone.

I fully don't expect there to be a "solution" other than a software update or returning this phone, but has it happened to anyone else?

I ended up returning my iPhone 7 Plus (model A1784) and repurchased an iPhone 7 Plus (model A1661). So far the music skipping and random disconnects while on calls is gone. I did a lot more research on these Apple forums before going into the Apple Store and ultimately deciding to return and repurchase. There is another forum that has 43 pages of responses about the same issue. I posted a very long response there and am including a link if you'd like to go there and get more information. It's worth a read as it may help and will explain my logic for doing the return and change in models.

So I'm not sure if I've fixed this issue or not, but Bluetooth seems to be working as intended now. On a whim, I tried the "Reset all Network Settings" again and I've not had a skipping or stuttering issue since. It's been working for 3 days now with several hours of music played in the car. I've taken phone calls, streamed from Spotify, Apple Music, and Pandora without incident. Hopefully I haven't jinxed myself!

Hoping that a fix to the IOS comes out soon, as I can no longer do hands free incoming calls in the car, and can no longer receive text messages through Sync. I can however dial out and talk hands free just fine - weird!!

I have done a factory reset on both phone and Sync which made no difference. I have tried connecting my sons iPhone and the same happened - no hands free or text messages.

Please Apple do something to fix this ASAP!!

Oh yes, I am beyond frustrated with this. I have a brand new 2017 Ford Explorer and my issue is not with the Bluetooth by the USB connection. At times will connect, at times it won't. If it does play, if I skip a track or anything, it goes nuts and completely locks up.

Very frustrating as Ford is not any help and neither is Apple. I don't know if it's Ford's issue with iOS 10 or Apple's issue with Sync 3. Either way, it's not working.

I am having similar issues with my 5s connected to an aux cord but my problems only started after I updated to the 10 operating system. I know another individual having the same issues on his 6 connected with bluetooth in his Ford Edge only after updating to the 10 operating system. Both our phones worked fine previous to the update. Any advice out there ?

I'm on Verizon and can definitely attest that it's an issue with this carrier as well. No problems with my 6, but my 7+ will pair and make calls but nothing else. If it's plugged in for USB music, if I hit a bump/pothole (quite frequent in the D.C. Metro area) it stops my connection and goes back to satellite radio. I keep getting an error saying that my phone will not allow messaging through sync (which is new), so I don't get notifications to text messages anymore which is super frustrating when it's now a first offense (to get pulled over by the police) in our area to have your phone in your hand - so now I can't see if a message comes in, or have the car read it to me or respond. I thought upgrading my iPhone was great until it won't talk to my car - and with an hour+ both ways commute to work, this needs to be fixed ASAP. I have a 2015 Ford Edge.
