Updating to iOS 10 with Windows XP

I have an older PC with Windows XP, Media Center, SP3 (cannot afford to update or buy a new PC...on disability 8+ yrs). It has iTunes 12.1.3.6 installed. Every time I try to update my iPad or iPhone to iOS 10, iTunes indicates that I need iTunes v12.1.2 and offers me a button to download it, but when I click it, nothing happens.

Where can I download this version of iTunes for Windows XP?

iPhone 6s, Windows XP, iTunes 12.1.2; iPad

I am in the same situation. iTunes 12.1.3.6 works fine with iOS9 on Windows XP with my iPhone6. I'd like to install iOS10, but iTunes says I need on OLDER version (12.1.2).

There are still plenty of XP users out there, and we all need to complain loudly about this. Apple needs to understand that they are alienating customers by not supporting them.

Sure, but if either of my devices ever go down and need to be restored or replaced, I'm probably shot, right? Believe me, I've thought about about this. But I don't want to be stuck without a way to restore my devices because, you know, stuff can happen. And in my experience, it always happens when you least need it and don't have a way of dealing with it.

I really want to update, but not until I have a backup and restore plan I can afford and live with...these things are expensive and I'll be paying for this iPad for a long time. I don't want to be paying for something I can't use because I got impulsive.

Thanks, it works. I certainly hope Apple will continue supporting Windows XP. I run it on an i7 Quad. I use XP by choice, not because I have old hardware. I use XP for many reasons. I want nothing to do with the "telemetry" in Win 10, and they are pushing their spyware back into 7. No thanks, M$. I'll stick with XP. By the way, mine still gets updates every month, until at least 2019.

If you want the 2019 updates, just Google it. It's a simple Registry key.

Apple actually ended support for XP with the release of iTunes 12.2.0 on June 30, 2015, with the one exception being the out-of-sequence 12.1.3 that you are currently using, which is also more than a year old now. It's a pleasant surprise that you are able to support iOS 10.0.2, but as turingtest2 noted, "it is possible that a subsequent update to iOS may break this compatibility."

Well, I ended up on the phone with Apple support and after taking control of my screen and trying everything possible, your answer is the only answer. There's just nothing else to do. She even found the site with the old versions of iTunes and 12.1.2 is gone, if it ever existed.

So I upgraded to iOS 10 on both my devices and was able to backup to iTunes on my computer. And I went through this with the nicest Apple support person ever.

I had the same question about iTunes as Brio9. And, by the way, I am perfectly confident using XP. The thought that it may "snap" some day is just ridiculous.

Also: @Brio9, my finances are extremely limited. I was not boasting about the i7. I was simply pointing out that I use XP by choice, as do many others. It's really fast on modern hardware. 🙂

Hola,

Gracias a vosotros me animé a actualizar y quería compartir mi favorable experiencia. Un saludo!
