Q: Airplay on Appletv 4 not working after TVOS10 update

I expericence a lot of problems. Almost nothing is possible to airplay to my Appletv4 after upgrading to TVOS10.

I have an Ipad 2 with ios9 and an Ipad air 2 with ios10, and everytime I try to stream anything via airplay to my Appletv it only shows for a few second - then it goes back to the menu page.

Apps works fine - but airplay doesn't work at all after the upgrade. I have tried to restart everything, including my router. No result. I wish I could downgrade. Worked perfectly well before. This is really annoying. So right now I watch my favourite football team via a Chromecast.

Apple TV, tvOS 10

Hi. A couple of questions to clarify your situation. Are you using basic AirPlay, not mirroring? Do you actually see the selected program for a few seconds, not a commercial or other filler?

Yes. This is when using basic AirPlay. Mirroring works ok, but mirroring is not my favourite. The picture is seldom best quality and sound often lacks.

Yes I actually see the selected program. But only for a split second.

Understood. It's as if ATV is connecting to the server (so you get a picture) then being disconnected. I need to ask, are you using any VPN, unblocker, or special DNS service on your iPad that the ATV cannot access?

I used to have a dns service, but I disconnected it, but the problem persists. Some apps works fine though. But most videos act like described

You might check the DNS setting in ATV network settings, and in the router internet settings, to be sure ATV is getting the right info.

Airplay used to be fine until I upgraded to tvOS 10 too. Ít's not possible to stream sound of the Apple TV to an Airport Express anymore

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.

    1. Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
    2. Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
    3. Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
    4. Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    5. Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    6. Restart your mobile device or computer.

If you are still having problems, try using 802.11n for wifi if you are currently using either 802.11b or 802.11g.

If your problem is AirPlaying from a computer, try disabling bluetooth

Hello ikoyi. To clarify, your problem is with sending Apple TV audio to AirPort Express, not with AirPlay from a device to Apple TV. Correct? Do you see the AE in the list of possible audio speakers? Have you tried restarting ATV as suggested by Winston?

    Thanx Winston for your reply.

First to clarify: my comment was about streaming audio from Apple TV to Airport Express. I have several of them from different generations. The older tvOS couldn't remember their passwords although streaming worked. Since tvOS 10 i can see the AE'ses in the pulldown menu, select them but the Apple TV doesn't seem to remind them. So I will now go through the options you gave me:

    1. check & double check

    2. check

    3. check I even did reset it to factory settings

All other options you give are about making devices connect or visible on the network and they are.

It's just that the Apple TV has issues to connect to the AE's

Thanx Diana for your Reply, yet it is. I've tried all Winstons relevant options but I think there's a bug in the tvOS software.

After restarting everything and resetting to factory default I think that most work. Though there's one app and website that give the same problem with just showing a split second of the stream. But I believe that the provider needs to fix some bugs regarding the new TVos10. I hope so.

I have a couple of AE's in the house, my Apple TV can still connect to it without issue, so i don't think it's anything other than your environment that is causing the issue.

Hello ikoyi. You should report your problem here https://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.html Try to describe a specific case with ATV 4 and a single AE, and what does and does not happen.
