Can't change track order in a created playlist

I have created a playlist in Apple music on my iPhone SE, however when I try to change the order of the tracks it won't save. When I press edit, the three lines appear next to each track and I can move them up and down the playlist to the order I want, however when I press done, the tracks revert to their original order.

Can anyone help?

I had this problem too, along with many others (songs purchased in iTunes were not showing up in Music, playlist created on one device was not synced to others…). I spent 40 minutes on the phone with Apple support and signed out and into iCloud on my devices, didn't work; reset all settings on my devices, didn't work; hard restart, didn't work.

Solution: After all of that, the thing that finally got everything working as you'd expect was deleting the Music app and re-downloading it from the App Store. Now everything works like a dream.

Hello,

It worked for me yesterday.

I tried to restore my iPhone with iTunes and I set it up as new iPhone.

Then I went to Setting / General / Reset / Erase all settings and datas (like JerryGN).

It did’nt work the first time and I had to do this twice to work (restore with iTunes, set up as new iPhone and erase datas again).

I didn’t try to back up my saved datas but with iCloud, all my Apple datas came back.

I am having the same issue after upgrading to an iPhone 7. Previously, with my iPhone 6, I had an issue after an update (to iOS 10, I believe) whereby the song order would be random (rather than the order in which they were added) until I edited the list, but saving the new order worked. Also, from that point on they would add in order to the same list (so I would add a couple songs, change the order, save it, then add more songs). After recently upgrading to iOS 11, they would add in the right order from the start. I just purchased an iPhone 7, backed up my old phone, restored it to th new phone, and now not only are the songs added in a seemingly random order, I cannot change the order by editing the playlist. I can move the songs around and they 'pop back' to the same random order when I click 'Done'. VERY FRUSTRATING!

I have tried the backup and restore method suggested, and it made no difference.

Hi Stevo2905,

Thanks for your question. The steps you describe to change the order in a playlist are correct. Here are the instructions from the iPhone User Guide:

Playlists

I would suggest you force quit the Music app and restart your iPhone.

Force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Check to make sure you have iOS 10.0.1 on your iPhone SE. Settings > General > Software Update

Do you have an existing playlist on your iPhone that was synced from your iTunes library that you can try? I'm curious to see if the behaviour is the same.

Please reply back if the issue persists with an existing and/or a new playlist that you create.

Take care.

Hey Stevo2905,

I became a member of Apple Support Communities just so that I could answer your question 😁, because I had the same one and couldn't find the answer (or anyone else besides you asking the question) anywhere. Hopefully my answer makes sense.

The problem started for me after updating my iPhone to iOS 10. After chatting to Apple Support for a few hours in total, the solution for me was to backup my phone onto my computer through iTunes and then restore.

After the backup and my phone being restored to setup, I tried to reorder the songs in my created playlist on Apple Music again and it worked. So I then restored my phone from the backup, getting all of my info and data back, and the issue no longer persisted.

The support Advisor who helped me said that it was probably a corrupt back up (after updating to iOS 10) and that the software may not have been responding properly because of it. And they did notice that I was missing a few updates while the restore process was happening.

After trying a few things, this is the only solution that worked. I know this seems like a lot to do in order to fix such a small issue, but if you use Apple Music as much as I do, I'm sure it's annoying to not be able to reorder your songs the way you would like. It shouldn't take that long to do, especially if you already know how to backup and restore through iTunes, unlike I did. But if not, the technical support members at Apple are great. I used the "Chat" option and they were able to see my screen and walk me through everything.

Good luck! I hope your playlist rocks!
