iOS 10 - iPhone hangs on words when typing

I just updated my iOS today and it freezes in Swype in portrait. I can't even change the keyboard type. As soon as I flip it to landscape, I can use Swype and change the keyboard. Perhaps I will try a Swype update to see if that will do anything.

Usually resetting your keyboard dictionary can help. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Keyboard Dictionary. This will erase the data your phone uses to predict your individual typing habits, but it should quickly return to normal within a few days.

Did you ever find a solution for this? The only fix I found is turning off autocorrect. That solves the problem but very annoying of course!

This was happening to me, as well. Disabling spell check was the only way I could find to stop the problem

10.0.2 upgrade fixed it for me!

The update was only a temporary fix for me. The problem returned within two days. I took someone else's advice and installed SwiftKey--it works without any issues, which leads me to believe that it is a problem with iOS 10's dictionary. I noticed any time the freeze happens, my phone has the loading icon in the upper left corner like it's connecting or downloading something. Someone else said that iOS 10 connects to the cloud for "better word suggestions." Until this is addressed (perhaps by making the "enhanced" word checking optional) I'll be using SwiftKey

I reset the dictionary before upgrade to 10.0.2 and it seems to be working fine for now. Let's see how long it'll last

I have this EXTRAORDINARILY annoying problem, too. The apps all freeze and I have to restart them - this happens across a multitude of apps: Outlook, Email, Whatsapp, WeChat - anything that heavily depends on typing. The only solution I've found is to switch to Gboard (ironically, Google's keyboard). I tried cleaning out the dictionary / resetting it as suggested above, didn't work. Terribly disappointed that this issue has not been corrected after having it for at least a month now.

Same issue here in iOS 10 with two phones, one is 6s plus and the other is iPhone 7. Crossing my fingers that Apple fixes this bug in iOS 10.1

Nope. They didn't. It actually got worse.

Still no fix for this yet, aside from turning off spell check or a 3rd party keyboard.

I left Android for this?!?!?!

I am having this issue as well. I'm have a 6s plus running 10.1.1 and I just reset the keyboard and it's still happening. I'm going to try downloading a third party keyboard but my experience in the past with those is they didn't work very well.

Here is the story...

Apple told me to do a reset of the phone and install it as a new one and download all apps from scratch, but then I would loose some old apps that you cann't find in AppStore anymore. They also told me that they know about the problem but do not have any other idea about how to solve the problem besides this workaround. Really bad I would say, but after thinking about this and looking at what others have said about the issue, I made a reset of the dictionary. It did not help! However I installed other keyboards and deleted my default keyboards, and then I installed my keyboards again. I also after that did just a simple hard reset on my phone, just in case, and guess what, now my phone works perfectly again. Apple, you can send me a small gift for helping out;-)
