how do i turn off voice mail transcribing?

For whatever reason it is not working on my 6, and it won't simply play back the messages either. Since I 'upgraded' I have not been able to listen to any voicemail and it has yet to actually transcribe a single bloody voicemail- it just sits there trying and running my **** battery down.

Do you also realize that your cell phone voicemail is housed on a server that is owned by your cellular carrier. Have you read of any of the hacks of voicemail over the last few years. Are you not concerned over your privacy implications there. I suggest if you are concerned about privacy and security, that you contact your cellular carrier immediately and have them turn off your voicemail so they are not collecting any information about your calls. And while you are at that, remember that they collect a record of every call you make, and receive. They are also keeping a record of every SMS/MMS that you send and receive, as well as the numbers you send and receive them from. They are also bound to release that information if subpoenaed by the courts. Your life is out there. At least with Apple's iMessage, it is strictly a data only transfer that Apple keeps no record of, and could not release anything even if subpoenaed. There is none. Might want to re-evaluate those privacy concerns. Don't get me started on your car's computer.

hmm... that's interesting... I'm NOT sure how to turn the transcription off, but I'm using this visual voice mail in my iPhone 6s from quite a time, but never had this issue. What I would recommend is try manually accessing your mailbox by pressing 1 on your phone pad, and listening to your mails. Apart from it, you should also try contacting your carrier, and try to re-setup your mailbox in your iPhone.

Hope this helps!

You can access you vmail by pressing 1 on your phone dial keypad! just wanted to get that out there for someone looking for a quick answer. Lord Vor.... put it deep in his answer but I wanted it up front for those of us who are frustrated and wont read through all the answers. I was going to respond to ChrisJ... about hosting the vmail text on the AT&T servers and was going to mention that my transcript is so off it wouldn't even matter then I started to think, OMG what if it thought it heard something that wasn't said.

I dont know who is to blame here: AT&T or Apple. I would think that AT&T would be responsible for fixing the bug and more importantly, allowing us to OPT OUT!

While your carrier is responsible for your voicemail, and supporting visual voicemail, the transcription is handled by Apple. At this time, there is no setting to turn off transcription. The issue that some seem to experience as far as playing your voicemail can be remedied by contacting your carrier and have them reset your voicemail on their system.

There HAS to be a solution. I frequently have to tap my messages over and over and the stupid transcription engine keeps stuttering and kicking me out of the recordings. Sometimes, I can't even check my messages AT ALL for days!

This huge oversight is not enough, by itself, to make me switch from iPhone. But, if this is any indication of their new approach to feature deployment...I won't be a fanboy much longer.

PS - Why is Apple beta testing this feature in a Public release. Isn't that what the beta program is for?

THIS!!!!!

Maybe you forget that when Siri was introduced, it was also in Beta. This is much easier to test with a larger group than it is with the public beta. The beta testing you refer to is designed more for testing the software with other devices, not using with daily use devices like you would get with this type of test.
