iOS 10 - iMessage Photos Not Saving to Camera Roll

Hi everyone! Thanks in advance for any help you may offer.

I have an iPhone 6S running iOS 10.0.1 and none of the photos I take with the little camera inside iMessage save to the Camera Roll.

Is this normal behavior for the iMessage camera?

Photos I take with the full Camera app save just fine. I've tried restarting, and the tricks on the web about sharing photos from the thumbnail inside the Camera app with no success.

Thank you again.

Technically, aren't all of my photos getting saved if the I have the setting "Keep Messages--Forever" turned on?

If so, why can't Apple make them show up in my Camera roll?

They could. In fact, that used to be the way it was. They have, however, decided to change the way it works.

You can submit feedback suggesting they change it back here:

Apple did save them in the Camera Roll in every version of iOS prior to 10. However, there were lots of complaints that message images were cluttering up the camera roll, and users who posted to Apple Support Communities were encouraged to send feedback to Apple. So apparently Apple DOES respond to feedback.

I agree with the original post. This is resiculous that when you take a photo when your in the texting application that it doesn't save to your photo library. The iPhone 7 has upgraded their storage and this has been helpful in the past. As far as the comment if only taking one more step, the ""majority (80-90%)" purchase the phone because of its simplicity so adding an extra step is not a step in the right direction but a step backward. They should keep this feature and automatically add them into a preinstalled album specifically for photos taken through text messages. For example if you are at a store and send a picture of something that your roommate/friend/relative and wanted to verify that it's the right item this would come in handy, especially if it turns out they want something different and you find a similar item but can't recall id it's the one you already asked them about. Apple needs to become more inovative with their ideas.

1) why doesn't Apple have "Swipe" for texting. This feature has been around for 7+ years and drastically speeds up texting with far less errors then key by key strokes, while simultaneously decreases the time wasted on texting.

2). Android gives you the ability to set up specific times when you can turn on location services for apps, manage data usage on apps, close apps automatically after inactivity for a set duration of time. All of which improve battery time, which everyone can agree this has always been an issue with iPhones and phones in gereral.

3) When will apple make a replaceable removable battery/extended battery. This is outrageous that apple hasnt done this yet especially since their batteries have some of the lowest power rating and only last about 6 months before more and more frequent charges are required.

regards,

Kyle

The Swype keyboard (and many others) are available in the App Store. You can easily add it to your phone.

No one here would know what Apple's future plans might be. And Apple is not reading here. You can submit feedback using the link already provide.

This was a friendly yet wordy and not helpful answer.

Apple needs to give us the option to save all photos. It also needs to make taking a picture from within the app a lot easier than going to that stupid small menu now.

Apple needs to listen to users, because this is the most dedicated and, at times, intense group (cult?) of people I know. We are loyal to the product, but when we are not heard and when things start to get too clunky with something that previously worked just fine, we will find a better solution with a different provider.

So tell Apple, not the other users in this user-to-user forum that Apple does not read. http://apple.com/feedback.

However, the reason that the option was removed in iOS 10 probably was the constant stream of complaints over several years that photos from messages were cluttering up the camera roll, and a lot of people were really annoyed about it.
